The new model will be much more of a hindrance than any help, considering that the prices go up by 10%, not down, and that the current model has already some supply issues, so those sales won't be boosted much, either.

Switch 2023 should start to gain a lot of ground on 2022 now, as the next 3 weeks were slow last year. 

It's also built a 500k lead over 2019, which it should remain ahead of now with the help of Wonder. A whopping 1.3 million ahead of 2017 and 2018 as well. Crazy performance for a platform in its 7th year.

That's why I have a sales thread where the charts are launch aligned, and the years are compared correctly. Here is the specific chart for the DS vs Switch in Japan lifetime.

And as you can see Switch is making the 2008 level of DS's numbers for this year.

Playstation Sales in Japan

- PS1 and PS2 numbers are from Game Data Library and Media Create
- PSP, PSV and PS3 are from Media Create
- PS4 and PS5 are from Famitsu

EDIT: the numbers i originally used for PS1 were from Game database library's website and appear to be outdated, the newer numbers GDL posted on twitter reduces the PS1 total from 19.003m to 17.889m and i have adjusted. This is more in line with famitsu's lifetime estimation for PS1 of around 17.5m in Japan.

It's wild to see Sony's first 3 systems (PS1, PS2, PSP) sold over 20 million and now they barely can sell 10 million systems. Ultimately I think the PS5 will sell less than the PS4.
