This is the Ultimate Console Showdown comparison thread for 2022.

The battles for this year are as follows:

  • Nintendo Switch vs Nintendo DS'10 (20.3M)
  • PlayStation 5 vs PlayStation 3'10 (13.8M)
  • Xbox Series X/S vs Xbox One'18 (8.8M)
  • Xbox Series X/S vs Xbox 360'08 (345k - JAPAN)

Latest adjustments: March 2024

*The target for all of the comparisons is to be as close as possible (and with that to give us better perspective where the given console is going this year) and to have good chance of finishing close in the end. Therefore if some of the contenders go way far one from another then, the contender's year, or even the contender itself may change so that it suits better to the given's console performance in 2022. Other thing is also I would not repeat the main competitor (on the tables) from the year before from my thread, so even if it's a good fit, I would always look for a different one, so it's always new and fresh.*

PS5 will likely lose this one. Not sure Sony will produce that many. Im expecting 17.5.

Switch should edge this one by a a couple of million. Should be around 22.5

Xbox series will fall a bit short. I expect around 10 mil for it.

Xbox series if has better stock it has also a shot at 11M. It's not so much ..

Agreed. They both have a shot if they have enough stock.

Im predicting they wont though. Hopefully Im wrong ad I want the console market to do well.

Honestly, I think PS5 2022 is going to be more competitive with Switch 2018 than 2019. Though Sony often shows better consistency throughout the year, sales for Nintendo always blow up at the end of the year. My guess is that by November PS5 will lead by one to two millions, but by the end of the year they will be about 3M behind, similar to what happened in 2018.
