I can see this happening. Imagine Nintedo paying attention to Europe's holiday numbers for the Switch 1 and, based on them, doing a farewell Switch 1 shipment to Europe for 2027 and beyond

It's getting more interesting. The last few quarters were more on the low side, this one was a little bit higher than expected, although by not big amount. But still. If there is 1-2 more such quarters, then 160M might be bigger possibility than the discussions from the last 1 year. It's literally a race. Race with the time, race with the market, race with the EU regulations, race with the left demand, and even with the economic situation. Let's see. Switch 1 should reach 158M by March 2027, if everything goes by plan, or at least their forecast.

Same with the switch, that much cheaper handheld only version boosted a lot of sales,if only that"other console" had a handheld only model sales would be close to 180mill!

the pandemic also saved the switch, without those sales would be quit lower.

The insane first 2 years ps5 shortages helped the switch also!

Not to mention the insane price increases we have seen, if switch2 would be sold # 350 or 399 sales of the switch would already be close to death.

But yea we all know you look at this as a one way ticket.

I said before the question now is if it'll end at 158m or 159m and the latter is looking more likely than before though that's still up in the air. More importantly this doesn't change my expectation that 160m has no real chance of happening now unless the rest of the fiscal year is also surprisingly high and there's good reason to suspect the next quarter will be lower. Assuming it's at about 158m by the end of March next year it'll need to still ship another couple million and the 3DS shipped less than 1 million after March 2019 so it'll need to suddenly outperform that by literally over double.

It's too bad Europe really let the Switch down. It's the only region where the switch is significantly lower than the other best selling consoles. Although Europe seems to be moving away from consoles in general.
Still the Switch is easily the most impressive console I've seen in terms of sales. The level of competition for people's attention has never been higher. Other consoles, pc, smartphones, social media, streaming etc. Along with coming off of one of Nintendo's least successful consoles ever and having to build up good will with people all over again. Then being hit with RAM shortages stopping them from being able to lower the prices and new legislation killing the console off earlier in Europe and general financial instability hurting its late life sales. No console has ever had the odds so stacked against it and been so successful.

Other console sales have had the benefit of users upgrading to a more reliable form because the failure rate of the first model was so significant. To my knowledge the failure rate of the switch is very low. I cant imagine anybody bought a new switch because their first one was failing. I think that is one of the biggest factors when considering certain consoles and how much they sold

That isnt even remotely true! There are many broken switches..like any other consoles in the world lol not even talking about the horrible controllers and many MANY gamers buying the handheld only version that boosted sales.. thats a verry big factor of why switch sold so much including the others i mentioned...
