This will be a low point this year due to post Obon but even with that context hardware is genuinely awful this week. Even post Obon in 2016 wasn't this poor so considering the Switch 1 will be basically dead next year things will get outright dire if both the Switch 2 and digital PS5 go up in price that year. Could be looking at a lot of the worst weeks ever for hardware sales since tracking began in such a scenario.

I also remember people declaring the Switch "dead" because it was only selling around 20k a week. What does that say about the Switch 2 when it is selling like this and it is supposed to be in its prime? Did the Switch 2 already peak or will it recover next year? It did have some amazing sales right before the price increase, but sales since have been pathetic. |
This things should be temporary. Given that the generation of Switch 2 will most likely be similar to Switch 1, and given the love for handhelds and hybrids in Japan, and how 37M+ people bought Switch 1, Switch 2 has bright future in front of it. Just like the Switch 1 had like a cooldown period before it's real peak (from late 2019 onwards), such is the case with the Switch 2 as well. It should last till 2033 or something like that, so it's peak should start from next year or even 2028. Another example is the DS. It had mediocre sales in 2005 (compared to it's peak) and it blowed in 2006 and 2007. Switch 2 is still well ahead of 2018 and even 2019 year's of Switch 1, by this point in the year, and those two were also stronger than it's launch 2017 year.

Post holiday week hurts sales for sure.
But I don't think it's a surprise to anyone at this point that consoles are doing poorly globally because poor economy / the US regime's economic war against the world, continued rising prices of the HW, Sony/Xbox getting closer to saturation point, and Switch2 just having a very weak first party lineup so far and also not being affordable like how the Switch was.
In Japan specifically the entire market was previously looking fine thanks entirely to Switch 2, the one strong market for the system, but Nintendo killed that with the price raise. A $100-cheaper S2 Lite and major popular games in Japan can revive things in Japan at least, but those things might not start hitting for another year.

Don't forget about Orbitals, which I would bet is greatly received in the Japanese market with full game on card and anime graphics
