A swich 2 lite would be helpful in japan i think. It's def still suffering from the price hike and the big sales in the spring kinda made up for it.

Yep, they have variety now. They can put it with 128GB of ram, LCD smaller screen, and some other cheaper part, for some 100$ or even 150$ if it's possible (don't know what the Japan price equal will be for this).

The Switch Sports bundle is coming for blood

So from what I've read the drop is caused by afternath of the Obon holiday. People don't buy much hardware after holiday ends. No wonder, this week is terrible for the consoles. Next week the sales might pick up against although I would bet on the Elden Ring to push some Switches 2.

Rhythm Heaven #1 for the rest of the year!

Yes, that's why last year for Switch 2 was only 35k, which was it's worst week ever before the price rise in April. Even by post Obon sales standards though this week is very poor for hardware.

If you have time, could you do the YoY chart update this week? Thanks.

Those Switch 2 numbers are concerning to me.

Funny you ask this: I’m actually in the process of moving apartments… for the second time this week. (Long story short: I moved into my new apartment Monday, there was a major health issue that allowed me to terminate my lease free of any charges, and now I’m moving to another apartment Tuesday.)

So my PC won’t be up and running until then (Tuesday) at the soonest. I’ll be sure to have YoY updated for next week though.

Yeesh, with the Japanese economy stalling and inflation rising while the Yen is dropping fast, I don't really see a way out for any of the consoles. In fact, I fear another price hike may come soon for the Playstation and maybe even Switch 2 at this point.

Bad sales all round. Switch 1 last year almost matched Switch 2 this year.

I also remember people declaring the Switch "dead" because it was only selling around 20k a week.  What does that say about the Switch 2 when it is selling like this and it is supposed to be in its prime?  Did the Switch 2 already peak or will it recover next year?  It did have some amazing sales right before the price increase, but sales since have been pathetic.

I think it depends of the Japanese economy.

If inflation keeps going up and value of the Yen down while the debt repayments continue to rise, Japan's economy is in for a rough couple of years to recover from that, and this will inevitable have a negative effect on console sales.

If they can stabilize the Yen and the inflation, then the Japanese economy should rise up again, and with it, console sales.

But which one of the two it's gonna be, I don't know. Though so far it looks like we're on the path for number 1...

I don't think it's only Japan that has a problematic economy, but yes I do realize they are devaluing their currency a lot to deal with their economic issues.

Overall, I think Japan is telling us a situation that is common worldwide.  Console prices are going up and the economy looks like it won't be so good in the near future.  Add in the push toward all digital games, and the console business doesn't look like it's going to do too well in the next few years.
