Much like the other threads, which console you can say was better for it's time and overall as a gaming system? PlayStation 2 or Switch 1? Which one do you think bring more for the gaming industry, and which one set the standard going forward ? You can take all factors like games library, modding, emulation, sales, generation of the system, controller, prices and deals on each, models availability, reliability or whatever else. Don't turn this into a console warrior thread of course. Simply pick one of the two, and explain the advantages, you personally like about that given system and the reasons you would pick that over the other.

The second best gaming system of all time vs a good Nintendo system.

Even as the Switch is good it's nowhere near comparable to me.

PS2 is only behind the PS1.

My perspective here needs to be taken with some salt in hand.
I'm not one of the younger members of the forum (we have people who played Switch as a kid), but a lot of you are 5-15 years older than me. I played a lot of GameCube, but not much PS2 even to this day. I still want to buy one eventually but haven't bitten the bullet given the large amount of hardware I already have (namely seventh generation onward).
With that perspective of someone who has never owned a PS2 but still played some of it, I think PS2 is better for its time period given its massive dominance in the industry. DualShock 2 reaffirmed in its near identical design that DualShock was the standard gaming controller going forward. PS2 played almost every PS1 game, played CDs and of course DVDs. PS2 had so much going for it.
Switch is probably the better system to me overall given its goated Nintendo library and the flexible play as a hybrid.

I say Switch 1 but that’s almost entirely because I wasn’t around to witness PS2. Switch showed that, yeah, console gaming in the palm of your hand is possible going forward. In addition to the absurd catalogue of first-party releases (and the fact that it brought Nintendo from its lowest state to one of its highest positions), I find it hard to see how PS2 could even compare.

PS2 was nothing revolutionary IMO— it was just the fulfillment of PS1. PS1 brought gaming to the mainstream, PS1 got the third-party developers, PS1 is where all the big games on PS2 began. And while yes PS2 does have quite the stacked library, that wasn’t necessarily a consequence of anything PS2 did as much as it was a reflection of the overall industry.

OT: im going to go with switch 1. Its got a better gaming library and made a greater impact for the gaming industry in general. There really is no comparison here

Anyhow, I take back my words for a reason: I think the thread is fine as is, even if it does very slightly rub me in the wrong way. Just a little in poor taste, y'know?
