My biggest problem was with the execution, on a first glance you can think this a Nintendo Switch only situation by the way they presented the article

@BraLoD In my defense I search "price hike gaming" on Google news and trimmed the first 3 pages but couldnt find anything as significant as putting a concern for the future in console gaming and Verge, afaik, is way more influent than these sites that you posted

Eurogamer is huge, Digital Foundry was once associated with it.

Also, it's pretty obvious you'll only find recent articles that just got out when you search for similar terms, that's how those search engines work.

Write the year and month of what you want to see inside " " so you can make sure older news will not be immediatly discarded in favor of current news, which they want people to click into.

Guess you could say that, inside our gamer bubble.

Now I can affirm you that I never had that problem, after the first page I could see reportings from years ago about the software price increase and of course the system's price hike itself but only in a informative character, not a full deep analysis talking about gaming market in a grimmering way

We don't need to derail this thread debating which company get covered fairly/unfairly.

On the actual topic, PS5's starting to show its age, combined with the global economy just generally being a trainwreck. It will be interesting to see how the price hike that came in last month affects the next quarter.

Yes. PS5 dropped as low as 580k in January. That's a lot. Weekly to 130k. That's level when you are about to release the successor, not 2 years prior.

Given the price hike and the lower than expected sales, I would continue this table with the next line being something like 1.50, 2, 7 (mostly because of GTA 6) and then 1.Which would total to 11.50. Maybe it can pull 12M shipments at best. But with the recent price hike, I can't see more than that. In other words 105M by end of March 2027. From there it really depends on a few factors. Will the price get lower after the crisis with the ram is done ? When will this be ? Will the GTA6 lifts the baseline of the PS5 and by how much ? And most importantly, when will the PS6 release.

Sony did not provide a forecast which I think is telling of how many PS5's could sell this fiscal year. We may be looking at a 10 million year with the price increase and late life really crippling it.

Do anyone know which was the last time, if ever, Sony didn't release a forecast for next FY sales?

2022 when they stopped reporting PS4 numbers, or maybe in 2021, forecast for PS4. Before that, maybe around 2012 - 2014 with the combined numbers of Vita, PSP, PS3, and PS2 however that may not be true for the forecast themselves but more about the exact shipment numbers.

The 1.5 million the PS5 shipped this quarter is 1.3 million down year over year (2.8 million).

It is also 1.1 million down on PS4's equivalent quarter (2.6 million). After 22 quarters the PS5 has shipped 93.7million versus 97.0 million shipped for PS4. This means launch aligned the PS5 trails the PS4 by 3.3 million units.

However, it will last more than PS4.

Supposedly, next year should be succeeded by ps6, but most likely it won't..

That extra year will help it.

Did Sony set a forecast?

No.

But yeah, it should have extra year at least .. and GTA 6.

I can see this fiscal year to be slightly lower than FY2019 for PS4, with 12M, however in the year after which is 2020 for PS4, it should do more than 5.8M for sure. And the year after that more than 1M, so it will even out, and maybe surpass it a little bit. 120M should be on the map.

I'll go ahead and predict what I think the PS5 will do each Quarter this FY.

Q1 I think will match their previous Quarter at 1.5 million due to the price increase and it showed they over shipped in their previous Q3.

Q2 looks like they usually ship more than Q1, so I'll go with 1.8 million. It could be lower, but we haven't seen the full damage of their price increase and late life effects yet.

Q3 is tough since they'll most likely do a $100 discount and say it's a great deal (even though we know better) and have GTA 6 and COD (no more last gen version) to help a little. I think it will match the same Q3 as PS4 at 6.0 million. I also think Xbox will take some sales for these titles. Not much, but some.

Q4 I think will be 1.0 million. Might be lower depending on if they over ship in Q3 again (meaning they overestimated GTA 6 and COD's impact).

So I think the FY 2027 will be 10.3 million (maybe 11.3 million depending how Q3 goes).

Did they overship for the Christmas season or did everybody who wanted one got it during the sale in the holiday season?
