Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 41, 2023 (Oct 02 - Oct 08)

With Switch continuing the good sales pace in Japan, I can see it outselling it there maybe by the year's end or early next year.
Worldwide though is still questionable. It surely continued to sell better than expected thus far.

My sales comparison threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdown / Historical Showdown / YOY Charts / 140M+ Club Chart

I may be wrong but I think the only market the NS will trail behind the DS by the end is in Europe.

But the fact a much pricier device has a chance to surpass the everlasting DS in Japan is already amazing as it is.

It is inevitable....

Kinda crazy that the Switch has barely lost any momentum since the launch of the Lite in Sept '19 (around W136). It never quite hit the crazy slope of the DS in its years 2 & 3, but it's far and away the best-selling console at this point in its life among those in this chart.  DS, Wii, and GBA were essentially done by this point.

I've long felt the Switch was destined to sell around 35M in Japan, but even that may end up being too conservative.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Seems that Japan is the Only Country/Region where the Mario OLED made any impact at all.

What are we thinking for total Switch sales this year? I was looking at how well it did each year after this point

Week 42 onward (% of yearly total)
2017-1.560 million (45.8%)
2018-1.628 million (46.8%)
2019-1.829 million (40.1%)
2020-1.803 million (30.3%)
2021-1.494 million (26.8%)
2022-1.299 million (27.0%)

Kind of interesting trend where holiday quarter sales have declined in relation to overall yearly sales, it went from nearly half to just over a quarter.

Normally the easy prediction would be lower than 2022 but the Switch has been beating expectations this year in Japan so it having a bit better holiday season than that to reach 4.5m would be a fitting end to the year.

PS5 needs to sell an average of 42,000 units per week for the next 12 weeks to reach 5 million units later this year. Spider 2 and the launch of the new model will help

How will the slim model help sales when it's more expensive than the current models? Also, Spider Man won't make much of an impact in Japan.

King Switch ! Those numbers are insane

Nintendo better wait until SUMMER 2025 for the succesor

Just release New DK + Metroid + New Pokémon let’s go series in 2024 and get that 165 million units

Oook.

I know we can be enthusiastic about the current Switch performance and how it could trend favorably in the coming weeks.

But no, your scenario is just not happening lol.

Well, there was a cliff, Switch just climbed up it instead of falling off it.
