still over 150k at retails and with 3 games in the top 10. nice start of NS2 life.

Switch!!!

Launch week Switch 2 sales in Japan was a little under 1/3 of WW launch sales. If the same ratio holds for week 2 it would point to week 2 sales of the Switch 2 being around 500K.

That would put Switch 2 WW sales at around 4M after week 2.

Also, Mario Kart World overtook retail sales of MH Wilds in Japan last week to become the best selling retail game of 2025 in Japan.

NSW is not holding up well… 13k is a lot lower than I was anticipating. NS2, on the other hand, continues to go ballistic. Very strong week two legs!!

2M is out of the picture for the Switch this year. I am thinking 1.5M at this time. Although depending on how much the drops will continue even this may be a strech at the end.
Switch 2 rocks. PS5 and XBSX disappoint ..

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 150M+ Club Chart

Best holiday months / When will the Switch pass 160M? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX / Switch 2

Expected decline for Switch, with the Lite now starting to become the best selling model since the more expensive models are going to become obsolete from a consumer perspective even with the S2 price so much higher.

S2 sales dropped 84% week 2, that seems pretty awful, but maybe stock was limited? Will be interesting to watch how sales continue after the huge launch in the weeks to come and also perhaps during slow periods between big game launches, considering the sky high price.

Also software sales show that Mario Kart is pretty clearly the only game worth buying on the system so far. Nintendo desperately needs DK and needs to hope it's a popular game otherwise it's 4 months from now until probably the next major game (Pokemon) comes out. Will be very interesting to watch hardware sales over this several month fairly dry period right after the record breaking launch. We'll see if there is a steady flow of buyers or if the record breaking launch was all just people desperate for a new system and then people holding back from the high prices waiting for a stronger library before considering buying.

I'm super curious to see whether S2 significantly boosts the third party software situation in Japan once more games start shipping on it... or whether the markets tastes seem centered mainly around Nintendo IPs with the occasional breakthrough

Not much of a reason to get a NSW in Japan now that you can get a NS2 to play (most of) the original Switch library, plus the exclusive next-gen titles.

PS5 may outsell Switch 1 for the rest of the year in Japan, which will suddenly drop to Switch 2, if it continues like this it will drop to less than 100 thousand in the coming weeks
