Forums - Sales - The Road to 160m+ for Nintendo Switch (EDIT: See mod note in first post for new rule).

Switch shipped 155.37 million as of December 2025. We will know on May 8 what has been shipped as of March 2026.

Nintendo's forecast for Switch is 4 million for the fiscal year ending March 2026. If Nintendo hits that figure exactly Switch will be at 156.12 million shipped. Nintendo's forecast for the following fiscal year will tell us if it has any chance of topping 160 million. If it is high enough I will start doing a monthly sales comparison with a certain other console.

So... are we gonna have these sales comparison charts after all?

You have it since 2023 But yeah, with official article it will be better, however as far as what I saw it was only a flat line where the console sits - 160M. It would be nice if there can be some estimated chart line in an article.

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / JP 2026 / 2026 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 150M+ Club Chart

PS5 vs SW2 in 2026Biggest months, years and holidays / When will the Switch pass 160M? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX / Switch 2

Really depends on how long Nintendo wants to keep the Switch on the market. I can see them keeping it until at least 2028, in which case they'd have a chance. The longer the better, so hopefully they do it.

160 is easy to hit, it's just whether or not Nintendo wants to do it or not.

Switch 1 has a perfectly reasonable justification to exist ... what the hell are parents of younger kids supposed to buy? A $500 Switch 2 is overkill for a 8 year old, so is a PS5.

If console makers are not going to offer anything affordable for the entry level/kids market you're just driving that audience straight to smartphone/tablet gaming.

Once again extremely valid points.

(Ns2 lite will come sooner or later)

Nintendo has set a forecast though, a number that is not signaling 160m, i have to admit.

They have to finally exceed their aim, instead of missing it a bit, will they? And a small drop afterwards.

155.92 2.35m

158.23 1.35m

159.58 750k

160.33m 260k

160.59

NS will be 12 years old in 2029....

Still optimistic that it will reach 159m+.

The question is, how many units has Nintendo produced?

Something very odd happened with past quarter shipments.
They were 210k in Japan, while it had sold 260k units in that trimester.
Hence, Shipping rate is lower than demand (it's not overshipped, it faced supply issues in February).

PS2 was a generation before we did estimates, so no real way add that. So it will have to only have lifetime sales as a line. But yes I can start doing that as a monthly article for now.

And yes mods I know I shouldn't mention a certain console in this thread, but I was asked about it.

The more time goes on, the more prices increase, the more baffled I get that they haven't had a budget tv only model.

It would have made a lot of sense to do, but not at this point. Imagine the size of the Switch Lite without the controllers attached, screen, or batteries. And have it come with a Pro controller or Joy-Cons.

A Switch 2 TV model would probably be easier to do than a Switch 2 Lite.
