Forums - Sales - Nintendo Quarterly Sales Update to 30th March: Switch 2 ships 19.86m, Switch 1 ships 155.92m

1.88 million more units until Switch 2 outsells the lifetime sales of the Gamecube.

NS1 shipments breakdown
JAPAN 200.000
Americas 160.000
Europe 120.000
Other 70.000
Nintendo missed its forecast by 200k
That number could be the spearpoint about it reaching 160m.
Japan shipments number is bizzare, because is actually less than what it sold in the past trimester, plus it faced supply issues in February (so it wasn't over shipped, unlike in the west...)
2m target isn't excessive.
Nintendo Switch will still be affordable in Japan, especially lite.
However, due to a ns2 lite for sure being in the way, the 160m milestone became harder....

Yeah just as we got BOTW/Splatoon 2/Xenoblade 2 in 2017 then TOTK/Splatoon 3/Xenoblade 3 in 2022/2023, we'll likely get the next game from the teams behind Mario Kart World, DK Bananza, etc around 2030.

Oof! I just realized that, yeah, the gap between 2017 and 2022 will be the same as that between 2022 and 2027… which is next year.

Also, on the note of 2017-2022/2022-2027, I wonder when we’ll be hearing from Platinum Games again… specifically for Bayo4, AstralC2, or something wholly original.

Yeah Splatoon Raiders is arriving this year 4 years after Splatoon 3, and Monolith Soft's next game should be arriving next year sometime as it'll be 5 years then since Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

The next Zelda will take a bit longer I expect, as even BOTW and TOTK took around 6 years and this time they'll be making a generational jump in tech, so I expect the next mainline Zelda around 2030.

On the other hand, Next Level Games released their last game in 2022 so we should be due for Luigi's Mansion 4 soon...

Mario Tennis Fever apparently did not cross 1 milj.

Could be the reason Nintendo changing their pricing somewhat in places (digital cheaper)

Yeah I'm pretty sure we can thank Mario Tennis for Yoshi, Starfox, Splatoon Raiders, etc being $60/$50.

As I said in a thread a while back, if consumers vote with their wallets, the market adjusts.

My hope is that Nintendo will enforce a permanent price cut on previously released titles like MKWorld, DKBananza, MTFever, and KirbyARs. These games do not have legs right now… and what a darn shame it is to see DK and Kirby crawling. Genuinely some of Nintendo’s best (well, the former I’ve heard as much. Kirby is IMO one of Nintendo’s greats)!

Given the pressure on their profit margins from *gestures at everything* I wouldn't expect price cuts on anything anytime soon, though I do expect that moving forwards the $70 and higher price points will be reserved for the biggest guns rather than stuff like Kirby or Mario Tennis; this is born out by Yoshi, Splatoon Raiders, and Starfox.

According to the quarterly results Q&A, Nintendo President Furukawa says that Switch 2 sales in the West have picked up following the release of Pokopia:

Perfect christmas system seller!

Are we expecting a  major Mario game? (too early imo).

Ps for f@sk sake, why no one asks him about the plans about Nintendo switch 1?

We can get a hint..
