PS5 version may beat XBS by 3:1 and maybe 4:1 in the long run but it's not getting close to 6:1. Xbox remains a big platform and GTA6 can revitalise it somewhat.

I wonder if Sony is going to supply enough PS5's for the holiday season or keep the volumes low to minimize losses from hardware. Be very prepared for another round of scalping madness 😮‍💨

So there is yet another rumor and it is the most interesting and revealing of all.  It has to do with Sony's plan and the current cost of the PS5. It goes something like this:

Currently, it is believed that Sony is currently selling the PS5 at cost.  In addition, Sony is said to have raised the price in May as a last ditch effort to slow down the sales of the PS5.  Why would they want to do this?  Well, if you remember back to the start of the year, you will remember that Sony stated that it believed that it had enough stock for the rest of 2026. But as evidenced by the Switch 2 increase, Steam Machine price, latest Xbox increase and sky high storage increases... the situation is actually getting worse.  And Microsoft called it out months ago because they are part of the team buying it all up for their datacenters.

Well it turns out Sony would rather sell less PS5s (stretching out their current supply) than to have to buy the new componets at the inflated prices.   And their plan is clearly working.  But they can only likely keep this up till the end of the year.  Thats why your scalping maddness comment is closer to home than you may think.

Even at the inflated price, we are running against the clock.  When that supply runs out, all hell breaks loose because even if Sony was willing to buy super high parts, there is not assurance that the componets will be there to buy.

Remember we have to endure this hell so that rich companies can build datacenters so they can find new ways to charge us even more money.

It's all about what they're betting internally. If the bet is that prices will come down beyond the contract period, and instead they actually double, then we'll know they fucked up.

At the rate things are going, the "expensive NAND and RAM" from a quarter or two ago may be looked at as "very cheap" and "an opportunity to order high volumes" from a 2027 perspective. So if Sony and Nintendo were hoping prices would come down by 2027, then they have hoped wrong and it will be bad for their hardware.

Sony gaming is projected to make 600 billion yen this fiscal year, which implies minimal or no hardware losses. If that's the case, then they have made a mistake by not ordering a LOT more to cover 2027 and beyond (assuming "ordering more" was an option), because it doesn't seem like these prices are coming down anytime soon, they might keep rising in 2027 then plateau in 2028.

It's not an actual figure but still something i found interesting, today Cdiscount, a french online retailer had this to say regarding GTA 6 preorders on their website:

"GTA 6 is the biggest cultural event of 2026. In 24 hours, we recorded six times as many pre-orders as during a standard pre-order period for major franchises like EA FC or Call of Duty. It is historic—unprecedented."

Even if this comes from a single retailer that's still kinda crazy to me, beating out CoD or Fifa preorders is a thing but doing it in 24 hours isn't something i expected

The source just sounds like a PlayStation hate factory and when adjusted for inflation, tariffs,  and a ram and storage crisis, I think we are lucky to be getting anything g at all.   It was also shown in another post that GTA 6 @ $80 is the cheapest its ever launched for.

It seems I have to reset the poll again ....... 50M from Day 1.

Reliable source?

Those preorder estimates are ridiculous even for a "100 million by 2028" projection lol. 5-10 million is more believable at this point. It still has several months of promotion and gameplay trailers to go. But my bro BraLoD still needs to adjust his prediction or I'll bully him for the rest of his life.
