PS5 version may beat XBS by 3:1 and maybe 4:1 in the long run but it's not getting close to 6:1. Xbox remains a big platform and GTA6 can revitalise it somewhat.

I wonder if Sony is going to supply enough PS5's for the holiday season or keep the volumes low to minimize losses from hardware. Be very prepared for another round of scalping madness 😮‍💨

So there is yet another rumor and it is the most interesting and revealing of all.  It has to do with Sony's plan and the current cost of the PS5. It goes something like this:

Currently, it is believed that Sony is currently selling the PS5 at cost.  In addition, Sony is said to have raised the price in May as a last ditch effort to slow down the sales of the PS5.  Why would they want to do this?  Well, if you remember back to the start of the year, you will remember that Sony stated that it believed that it had enough stock for the rest of 2026. But as evidenced by the Switch 2 increase, Steam Machine price, latest Xbox increase and sky high storage increases... the situation is actually getting worse.  And Microsoft called it out months ago because they are part of the team buying it all up for their datacenters.

Well it turns out Sony would rather sell less PS5s (stretching out their current supply) than to have to buy the new componets at the inflated prices.   And their plan is clearly working.  But they can only likely keep this up till the end of the year.  Thats why your scalping maddness comment is closer to home than you may think.

Even at the inflated price, we are running against the clock.  When that supply runs out, all hell breaks loose because even if Sony was willing to buy super high parts, there is not assurance that the componets will be there to buy.

Remember we have to endure this hell so that rich companies can build datacenters so they can find new ways to charge us even more money.
