The PS4 journey is (probably) finished at 117.20 Million.

The PS5 is at around 80 million. It's 5th anniversary is approaching, so we can't say the successor is really that far from us.

So, the PS5 needs to sell around another 37.20 million to outsell the PS4. Will it make it that far? What do you think?

With prices keep going up, and who knows what tariffs shitface cheeto turkey vagina neck will do next. By the end of this gen, maybe PS5 basic costs 800 bucks. So I'm going to say no. The US is not the only market, sure, but it's the largest.

I once thought PS5 would easily clear PS4, expecting a longer gen, but seeing as PS6 is already receiving credible rumors suggesting a Fall 2027 launch… yeah, I don’t see PS5 selling ~40mil over the next two years.

I still think it will; Xbox is basically dead so less competition, and PS5 will probably be produced for longer than PS4 was.

I initially projected 130-140m for PS5, but with the recent price hikes and the possibility of more in the future I'm adjusting that down to 120-130m.

It should. This year will probably be little short of PS4's 2018 (18M) but next year should beat the 2019 year of the PS4 (14M) with GTA VI, which will close the gap somewhat, then 2020 will be easy, although PS5 may get replaced by 2027, but if not, that 8M for 2020 will be easily beaten, and by 2028 and especially 2029, PS5 will pass the PS4.

I've been back and fourth on this topic many times now. First, I said "no", when I thought that Xbox Series would manage some decent sales this gen. Then I changed to "yes" when it was apparent that XBS chances were over. But now with the price increases and talk of the PS6 launching in 2027, I have my doubts again.

Only if ps6 doesn't come till 2028. Or GTA 6 does an absolute madness on hardware sales.

Though PS4 had a significant decline in 2019 so... Maybe it's possible even with 2027.

Still with it being almost double the price even getting close is a great result. Probably helped by the complete collapse of Xbox.

If the PS6 is 2028 then for sure but if it's 2027 then maybe if the PS5 has notably better post successor sales than the PS4. It'll probably reduce the gap some next year but I do expect the PS4 to still be ahead by the start of 2027.
