Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Discussion Thread -Day #36- The 15th Annual Greatest Games Event

Sign-Ups are still open!  |  The Official Thread  |  The Discussion Thread

Welcome to the 15th Annual Greatest Games Event! The Discussion Thread here is where everyone can talk all about their top 50 favorites, and also where we'll be trying to guess each other's entries in the traditional guessing game.

• All discussion is to be had in this thread. The Official Thread is only for posting our lists, once.

• I encourage everyone to ask questions and spark discussion. These are our favorite games of all time after all, and don't be shy to tell others why a certain game is so great, or to ask another user why their game made it on the list. The more discussion, the better!

• That said, please keep things civil and fun. There is no room in this thread for flaming others or trolling games/systems. This hasn't really been a problem in recent years, but it'd be nice if it continued that way.

• Follow the table below to know which day we're on:

Oh damn, it starts tomorrow? That crept up fast. Gonna have to go over my list from last year and see if anything needs changing.

I need to finish checking through my list too to make sure everything's correct. Some new games are definitely making it in this year.

I wish it was possible to know how I would rate games I finished years ago right now, without the need to replay them. I know from experience that some would fall, some would rise, and some would stay roughly the same. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to replay everything, unfortunately, especially if I want to chip away at my backlog and play new releases. So I’m basically stuck treating them as a remember them, and hoping for the best.

I can relate to that, but at this point I feel like lasting impressions are probably more important  to me anyways than how I would rate a game.

Still haven't finished up my list, but I'm planning to bore you all with a whole bunch of honorable mentions here at the start this time since it's a special year.

I think I will be adding Deep Rock Galactic to my list this year. Other than that, probably no other new additions. But I might need to reorder some things.

I feel like you're the only one who's ready in time, lol.

I just finished my list last night, but haven't started working on my graphics yet. Like last year, I don't have many new entries, and it's more of a top 40 with the 41-50 games being more about how they impacted my life rather than how much I still enjoy them. In that sense they're like an "intro" to the real list, and as such, I might as well just hint them all in one go to get us started:

#50 - One of the most notable additions of this sequel was adding a second character for the younger sibling to feel like they were doing something.
#49 - This game turned 10 years old this year and is still the latest entry in this massive series.
#48 - Crows doing paperwork in a monochrome dimension that serves as this game's hub world.
#47 - The game that gave us a very sexualized design of this series' main character.
#46 - The game that pretty much everyone has played.
#45 - Proof that spreadsheets and mundane busywork is a lot more fun when it's sports-related.
#44 - "Break on through to the other side" - The other side, apparently, was this genre's death.
#43 - This sidescroller was much maligned for forcing you to constantly stop, wait, and press X.
#42 - The first entry in a franchise that is soon to get a TV series.
#41 - Proof that people will change their minds even on the things they hate most if there's a good anime about it.
