With the release of the new gen out of the way, what do you think will the PS5 sell next year? I talk about calendar year 2021 and numbers according to VGC. And to make it something you not just about preferences, I make it a bet, so you should put your VG$ where your mouth is.

You can also bet, which console will sell the most in 2021.

Attention: I added two options beyond 20M. If that is important, you can change your current bet.

With low production for the foreseeable future, not much.

I updated the comparative thread with data from all three console threads. This is the graph, comparing the bets in all three threads (as of today):

You can still add bets.

If supply could actually meet demand, 22.5-25 million. I'll just bet on that, because what do I have to lose?

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I imagine 17.5-20.0M.

The first year for a system isn't high compared to year 2, 3, and/or 4. So I'll say 10-12.5 mil. I think sales will slow down in the Spring and Summer time.
So by shipped numbers if Sony releases them:
Jan - March: 2 - 2.5 mil
April - June: 1.5 -2 mil
July - Sept: 2 - 2.5 mil
Oct - Dec: 4.5 -5.5 mil

2022 I predict will be 15 -17 mil.

As much as Sony can deliver to the market. First half of 2021 will be another period full of Covid-19 problems, damn perhaps even the entire year of 2021... that said, yeah, Video game sales are going to be strong.

Whoa, when did this betting feature become available?

A year and a half ago.

I put about 10-12.5 million though I'd say this is on the low end. My reason is that I don't see PS5 doing as well as PS4. There isn't as much enthusiasm for next gen as there was last time. I think right now scalpers are fudging interest by taking up a lot of the supply. I also expect 2021 will be a very bad economy. The COVID economy has been covered up by the media but for most of the year a third of renters could make their payments and same for home owners. As I understand it, the restrictions will lift. PS5 is going to be too expensive especially with $70 games. I think consumers are going to stick with the last gen longer. Switch also poses a nice alternative with a $200 smaller price tag. Also, Sony has burned through a lot of its goodwill in the last few years. There isn't any killer app on the horizon to boost sales either. So my prediction is a bit lower than most expect but I'm not seeing the PS5 meeting the first year of the PS4.
