Forums - Sales - The Road to 160m+ for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo should release a new Switch Model that looks exactly like the Switch 2 (same look, same colors but LCD screen and screen size from old Switch) and call it: "Switch 2 Minus 1". I'm sure it woud sell like hot cake!

I really hope the Switch surpasses 160M just so conversations like this will die a swift death.
If it ends anywhere between 157-160 the arguments will never end.

nintendo should just rename Switch 2 to Switch Pro, and rebrand it as a new model to the family of Nintendo Switch systems. This would ensure Switch hits 160mil.

161.5 millions... they should just produce 9 millions now and that's it... sell them until it is sold out and end of the conversation.

Switch!!!

I think people are slowly realizing this isn't going to happen now.

I agree. It was a nice "road" though.

Yeah the rule of thumb when it comes to console transitions: The more succesful the transition, the quicker the previous system declines. Unsuccesful transitions like PS2-PS3 and Wii-Wii U meant that the previous console could rack up 7M or more sales after the new console hit the market, while succesful transitions like Switch-Switch 2 means a pretty quick death for the previous system. (And the Switch 2 being fully backwards compatible means that sales are declining even faster, given that the Switch 2 is a true successor model to the Switch, unlike say Switch was to 3DS).

At least Switch should have enough juice to get over DS sales to become the second best selling console ever

Circana (NPD) for May was delayed to July 9. We are waiting on that to post the rest of May estimates. The current plan for June is to post all of Japan about a week after that.

As far as Switch, It was at 152.12 million shipped as of March 31, 2025 with Nintendo forecasting 4.5 million shipped from April 2025 to March 2026. That would be a total of 156.62 million shipped at the end of March 2026.

It seems that way, we'll see.

1. Switch 2 had a record-setting launch for the industry. I knew it would be successful, but I did not see 3.5 million units in 4 days as likely. I don't recall typing out what my prediction was, but it was probably more in the large range of 1.5-2.5 million units.

2. 3DS was a much different experience than Switch, hence why it did well all things considered even after Switch launched. Switch and Switch 2 are similar experiences and Switch 2 is backwards compatible.

This very well could be the final holiday season where Switch sells at least 1 million units.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)
