To be fair the ps2 number at the time was assumed to be around 155 million which the switch has passed. Still very impressive for the switch to make it so close to 160 million

Yeah, but some people even back then knew the PS2 was at around 160M, they may be speculated, but they were right on the spot.
What is interesting to me is how back then people weren't so sure that DS was surpassing it, even though it was coming very close, and even the PS2 numbers on here VGChartz weren't up to date, at some point they were at close to 154M, there were really debates, but people weren't so sure about DS, like they were with the switch the last 2 years.

PS2 Forecast for 2012 FY
Here is some quote for old thread that also clearly shows some way to calculate shipments from the first quarter of PS2 after they stopped announce shipments numbers:

It gets worse. In the April-June Quarter of 2012, the PS2 shipped an additional 1 to 1.1 Million units. How can we know this? From Sonys own statements. Sony said the PS3 and PS2 shipped a combined 2.8 Million for the Quarter. We also know that PS3 was down YoY in said Quarter (It shipped 1.8 Million in the same 2011 Q). That leaves a minimum of 1 Million PS2s shipped in the Quarter, taking the total PS2 shipments to a minimum of 156.1 Million units Worldwide. More will have been shipped since, and considering that Sony shipped 1.6-1.7 Million units in Q1/Q2, its safe to say that the PS2 will have steadily gone by the 157 Million mark.

I put this here, because of the naysayers of PS2 being at only 155M. This reassures that 1. PS2 shipped a lot after this, and 2. if they have shipped at least 1M if that first quarter, it's very likely that they shipped around the same amount the next quarter (July - September), and it's normal the holiday quarter after that to do more than those normal quarters. So 2M are pretty sure from the first two quarters, and this is on the low side even, cuz the guy calculates PS3 as being minimum down, like 1.7M (from 1.8M the quarter from previous year, but if we take it some more, PS2 numbers goes higher like 1.3M or 1.4M), So it's not impossible for both quarters until September to be like 2.5M combined. And then some 2.5M for the holiday quarter. There you go, the 5M units. Let alone, the PS2 had shipped some units in January 2013 too.
