Forums - Sales - Famitsu sales (7/14/25 – 7/20/25) – Donkey Kong Bananza Launch

For those interested the Switch 2 is already at 25% of the PS5 sales and 18% of the PS4 sales.
For Switch it's nearly at 5% of it's sales.
At the end of year depending on stock and consumer interest it should be at 50% - 60% of the PS5 sales, then surpass it late next year. In Japan Nintendo is just a monopoly in the console space. If it wasn't for their systems being weaker than the competition they would easily have every Japanese 3rd party game. In my opinion the biggest appeal of the Switch was 1st party, AA and Indie games.

Good week for the Switch 2 and while it's not a great opening for Bananza the very good reception should give it strong legs. The Switch 1 reaches a new low and the PS5 has a relatively low week and with every other platform declining week on week it really is just Switch 2 show now hardware wise.

Switch OLED remaining the highest selling Switch 1 SKU now that its successor is out is interesting; I kinda expected it would be the Lite since if you're buying the most expensive model surely you'd just spend a bit more and get a Switch 2.

It'll consistently become the Lite before much longer I expect. The Lite already beat it in a week recently and with how close the two are that should start happening more unless the Lite suddenly starts to decline faster.

Considering the strength in numbers of the bundle, it isn't too surprising that we're seeing MKW surpass the sales of DK first week. Though since we don't have digital FW sales as well, we can't truly determine it's full numbers. Physical wise, it performed better than the last DK games over there so that's good of course, despite the much higher MSRP. It's gonna have some good legs though so I'm not too worried here.

Anywoo, both last Kirby titles are still charting here. Wonder how much of an uptick the Switch 1 version of the Forgotten Land can get before the release of the Switch 2 Enhanced Edition+ Star Cross Worlds

I went to many stores yesterday and still many limited time account required lotteries in Tokyo. Hopefully can find some in Hokkaido, but not likely. Anecdotal, yes. But basically the system is still out of stock.

Tamagotchi, Rune Factory, and Fantasy Life all doing quite well, showing the Switch 1 audience is still healthy and engaged even in the system's 9th year.

DK will probably be a game that will benefit a lot from WoM. So it's nice that it's a launch year title cause it will have the chance to benefit from that overtime. Same for Metroid Prime (if the game is good). So the low sales especially in japan aren't really worrisome. This will def be a 10-15 million selling title down the line matching LM3 imo.

Mario Odyssey debuted at 462,032 back in 2017 with the Switch having about 2 million units sold at the time. I'm sure Donkey Kong has a bit more digital success 8 years later, but still lower than expected.

Mario is a more popular character than Donkey Kong (Especially in Japan), so i don't think DK stood a chance to do similar numbers even on a similar install base.
