So Nintendo needs to do 160,636,886 to be in first. Another 4.05 million

Nintendo needs to do 160,636,886 to be 100% confirmed #1.

But if they do more than 159M and less than 160,636,886, they MIGHT be #1, we just won't know, because of Sony's lack of transparency.

I think what confuses people about ps2 shipments is that in FY 2012 they only shipped around 1.8-2 million. Then production stopped 9 months later in early January 2013. Yet they went on to produce another 5 million in this short time. I assume they must have just produced a surplus of ps2s in that time before production ended and shipped them out over the next few FYs.

See the first post, with the table with all the data ..

PS2 shipped 4.1M in the fiscal year ending March 2012. And in order to reach 160M, that means it shipped 4.9M in the next fiscal year which is from April 1st 2012 to March 31st 2013.

I digged some old comment from old thread back some months ago, where with calculations from what PS3 sold back in the first and second quarters of FY 2013, PS2 seems to have shipped around 2M for those. So ~2M from April 1st till September 30th of 2012.

They didn't produce another 5m in that time. There was likely 1m or more already in warehouses ready to be shipped. Sales lag behind shipments as they too lag behind production. When Sony switched from production shipments to shipments to retailers the gap was 117.9m to 115.6m, a 2.3m gap.

So switch need about 3.5 - 4 mill more to"beat" the ps2 even thou it has already beat it in everything besides its legacy, hardware sales, sheer amount of amazing games.

So this year they opted for 2mill shipped, lets say a tiny 50% decrease for next year thats 1mill.
Year after another tiny decrease of 50% thats 500k
Year after 250k.
And its done. Easy leasy switchy squeezy.

Shawn Layden confirmed the legitimacy of that picture. Though that was after he left PlayStation.

Yeah agreed. I also hope Switch tops 160.64 million lifetime, which will end any argument.

As someone who thinks the ps2 really is the greatest console of all time with the best library of games ever i dont hope that however, IF their is any console who deserve to be nr1 most sold to replace the ps2 its the switch.
