Laydon was ex-employee. Therefore not a representative anymore to speak on behalve of Sony. I think its prudent to use Sony's official information.

Besides if Laydon knew this number as employee, why not disclose it earlier. In the position as CEO he needs to accurately inform the shareholders. Essentially not correcting the earlier communicated 155 he would have misinformed his shareholders.

So someone who is high up ex sony doesnt know the facts and just straight up lies...

Yea,highly believable.

FACTS are..on the sony site it says higher then 160mill. Thats it offical sony stats.

Nobody has proof its not real, not one little piece of proof just" sony lies" " i dont believe it" "my gut tells me"

Show proof if not  stay silent and wait until switch passes the 160mill.

Someone of Laydon's position knows how to use words. His said and I quote "seems legit".

He did not say "is legit" or "is accurate". Being precise with words matters. Laydon knows this. It's like politics.

Also again, its important to use official statements from Sony. As an ex-employee he is not a representative voice anymore.

Besides why is that picture never disclosed by Sony? Why on what a random forum? A tweat? A message board? Where is it physically displayed? It's not about my 'guts' tell me. It's being logical on that its weird how this picture got distributed. That no current official Sony representative commented on it.

You ask me to prove a negative? Really? It's like asking your neighbor to prove he doesn't hit his wife.

Yeah, too bad the last official numbers still say 155M, though. Sony is welcome to update us in their next quarter report.

My fellow vgchartzerz, sony has confimed 160m in their anniversary site.
Also, they round down the nunbers, example 102m ps1, instead of 102.49, ps3 87 instead of 87.5,ps4 117 instead of 117.2
Hence, probably ps2 lifetime sales are exceeding considerably 160m.
What's boggling is that they dont show the psp sales, which was a great success (close to ps3) , to not extrapolate ps vita sales...

How did they confirm it though? By posting an ambiguous number on their site? I still dont understand how this is confirmation of anything.

I'm somewhat substantiating it already.

They present the total sales of PS1, PS3, PS4  rounded down, not the exact number, while also hiding psp sales, they could obfuscate ps2 sales too if they wanted.

I admit it's hard to be believed that they shipped 5m in the 13th year, it seems so extraordinary , but they could have also overshipped produced units in row markets, it's no secret you could find brand new ps2 in Brazil in 2015, while ps3 was nowhere to be found.

Nintendo can pretty much implement the same method in Europe for NS for the current 10th year, which sadly is the last one for that market.

Understood about the rounding down point, thats not my contention. I just dont understand how them coming out of nowhere with the number 160 is confirming that this is what was sold to customers. I just simply dont believe they ever got to 160 sold, for many reasons.

I suspect after 155mill they never said anything about it even thou we all know ps2 was stil being made/sold. So we always had to somehow "guess"  now sony said 160mill, soo 160 it is.

My youtube gaming page.

Sony also said that 85% of their game sales are digital.

sure, its 160 because they said that is what it is. but also we still have to guess, because again, this number/announcement is the most ambiguous it could have possibly been. we still don't know for sure exactly what the number is.

i understand 160 is the number we have to go by, but that doesn't make it true that this is the amount that was actually sold to customers. we just have to go by this because of the race we are currently in.
