Well, Switch 2's direct is out as well as its price: 450 dollars. Any thoughts on how this will impact Switch 1's trajectory from now on?

The price difference between Switch and Switch 2 is now confirmed to be bigger than expected, so this obviously favors Switch's longevity which this thread is about.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Switch will keep selling for a while. Switch is not only 150 more expensive, but the games are 20 USD more expensive. Switch, specially the Lite version, is the only unexpensive console in the market. I think specially japanese who are very prince sensitive will keep buying Switch and Switch games for as long Nintendo releases them

I think this price pretty much confirm the Switch 1 won't receive any price cut. The Lite model will be the primary one responsible for the Switch 1 sales going forward. I expected 399$, and honestly it wasn't so much to ask, when the result is just 50$ more. But maybe Nintendo struggled to even match that 450$ let alone 399$. At this moment I would say 157-158M, although wouldn't rule the possibility of reaching 160M, it depends on how the Switch 2 sales performs, cuz I am little bit mixed with that 449$ price. On one hand it seems a little bit high, on other it wasn't a problem for the PS5 for example.

The games aren't $20 more expensive, that's just Mario Kart World. Donkey Kong Bananza is listed as the equivalent of $70 which I expect to be much more common than $80.

A price increase for software to $70/€70 is something that I have expected all along, and really, everyone should have expected that. Mario Kart World will be an outlier like Tears of the Kingdom (America and Europe), and Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Europe) were on Switch 1.

Switch 2 is quite cheap in Japan, which is a major region for Switch's continued success.

Switch 2 costs 49,980 yen for a Japanese only system and 69,980 yen for a multi-language system

How much does Switch 1 goes for now there ?

OLED is ¥38,980 or ¥37,980. So that version will probably take a big hit.

Expected. After all, the OLED model is seeing the steepest decline this fiscal year because people looking to upgrade their Switch have been holding out for Switch 2 already.

Original Switch through three quarters of the current fiscal year vs. the previous fiscal year: Down 0.66m.
Switch Lite: Down 0.45m.
OLED: Down 3.10m.

In percentages, the original Switch and the Lite are down by only around 20% while the OLED is down by about 40%.

If there was any doubt Switch would crack 161 million or so, that's gone now. It will outsell PS2 globally. Nintendo would have to refuse to make enough of them for it not to happen.
Switch 2 is $450 (and similar exchanges in a lot of territories) and most main physical games will be $70 and $80 (and $70 for digital). Switch is still getting support, and while very outdated tech it is more economical for more casual players or low to low middle income households.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 40 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

With a 450$ price tag for Switch 2, that does help the Switch 1 more than I expected have a longer sales lifespan, tha 100$ gap between the Switch Oled & Switch 2 is pretty big and 150$ gap between the OG Switch. This does favor it making it to 160M
