Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales: Week 20, 2026 (May 11 - 17)

Damn Switch 2 sales were of course gonna get a significant boost from panic buying but I did not expect it to surpass the past two weeks combined. Sales will tank after next week but this insane May will help make up for that for a while. I wonder if the new baseline will drop into the 20's. The Switch 1 wasn't impacted much though I imagine it probably would've dropped back into the teens if not for the upcoming price increase and the PS5 is up YoY again so the gap compared to last year might not be that big a few months from now. It'll get bigger weeks 22-24 but 25-35 could see it shrink notably. Also Pokopia hitting a million physical sales is another reminder that Nintendo is having quite a strong year for software sales in Japan.

Yeah software sales like these show how smart it was for Nintendo to continue to cultivate a "casual" audience in addition to catering to enthusiasts.
So called cosy games are like crack to a lot of people.

I realize that the Switch 2 price goes up in a couple of weeks.  I realize that the system is incredibly popular in Japan.  But these Switch 2 sales for one week are just extraordinary.

Assuming that Nate's leaks are true - and they're looking good so far - there should be a Switch 2 Sports game coming this summer as well.  I wouldn't expect something on the level of Pokopia or Tomodachi but it's still another far-reaching title to help balance out the core games like Star Fox and an Ocarina of Time remake.

damn, holiday level sales as people rush to get S2 before the price hike. And one more week before price hike too, wonder if next week will be close to this too. Will be real interesting to see how low sales get in the weeks after the price hike, though presumably they'll pick up again some when Splatoon launches in July, if they haven't picked up a bit before then.

And tomodachi absolutely killing it, with pokopia still going strong. Those games are not something I'm even remotely interested in, but man there sure is a big market for that type of game. Japan is especially crazy for that type of game and Nintendo just dominates these sorts of games. Nintendo may be struggling post-launch a bit this gen everywhere else but they just keep shoring up their total dominance in Japan more and more with each passing year.

I don't think Switch 2 will fall of a cliff after the price increase. It's a successor to the best selling system in Japan after all, and despite the big boosts now (and next week), I think it will still hold on to a baseline of at least around 50k, which is decent so early in it's life, but I won't be surprised if the baseline is even higher.

Switch 1 though should fall of to a new baseline of around 10 to 15k at best per week, after the price increase, but it's sales are still better than what it's normal for a console in it's 10th year, so anything it does is just extra.

PS5 is going for a 500k to 600k at best for the year.

Curious to see if the Xbox can reach it's 2025 numbers in Japan. It isn't looking hard, but when you sell between 100 and 500 units per week it may is .. Then again it has some spikes here and there to around 1k.

Even with a price hike on the horizon, having a Christmas week in May is pretty crazy. It shows the demand is there, people just need more system sellers to upgrade.

If Sports Resort is a true thing and launches in July, that'll be a big help to soften the blow of the new price.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I know Capcom's expectations are usually off the mark, but I hope they're happy with RE9's performance on Switch 2. It's pretty nice to see it still charting after so long.

I don't imagine the Switch 2 port would've been very expensive to make compared to the game's total budget or even to the cost of similar demanding ports to Switch 1 where a lot more work was required, so it should have turned a profit on Switch 2, globally at least.

Around a quarter of its sales in Japan were for Switch 2, not a bad outcome considering the franchise is returning to Nintendo's platform for the first time since the Gamecube over 20 years ago.

It is believed that the Fitness Boxing 3 NS2 Edition was the “Switch Sports” game that is planned for Summer 2026. Nate mentioned that he didn’t know whether it was a sequel or an NS2 edition, but that it was one of those two for a first-/second-party sport Switch title.

If Nintendo were to somehow cram another game into their summer line up, however, and that game were a follow up to Switch Sports, then yeah, that would be huge. But I cannot see anything more than an NS2 Edition, if the FB3 was not what Nate was referring toward.
