And it's business as usual for the Xbox Series and Switch 1. Both look like they could do a tad better than expected this year though that doesn't really matter when they're both near death.

Who will die first ? That reminds me of the two snails that raced each other in the charts from close to decade ago, 3DS vs PSP.

If Helix does come out late next year it should happen at basically the same time for both. The Xbox Series should get discontinued right after that comes out and the Switch 1 will sell a little next year but pretty much nothing in 2028.

You can see in the weekly breakdown that PS5 got a significant bump towards the end of the month with the announcement of the imminent price hike, as a lot of folks ran out to grab one while it was still at the old price.

That should carry over to early April, followed by a drop as the new price came in.

Yeah, the first 2 weeks of April shouldn't be too bad as at least in the US most retailers took a week or 2 into the month before increasing the price. May data will be the true tell as to how much of an impact the price increase will have.

Definitely going to be interesting to see; Xbox nuking itself means the PS5 has little direct competition for those who want the dedicated home console experience, but at the same time $650 for the base system is pretty egregious, especially when so many people are already living paycheck to paycheck.

The battle for America is likely gonna be the most interesting to watch, as unlike Europe or Japan no one console has an overwhelming advantage.
Even Xbox is still somewhat relevant there, even if playing third fiddle.

The big question is how much the price increase will hurt PS5 sales. It is possible Europe might be the most interesting with PS5 and Switch 2. Switch 2 will likely grow its lead in the Americas for 2026 from here on out.

Unless the Switch 2 also get a price increase, and 100$ at that ..

Yeah a Switch 2 price increase would hurt sales for that. But with given the install base I think Nintendo wants to hold off as long as possible. With PS5 there are already over 90 million sold.
