At this point, its still Sony's game to lose in 2026. Onward to March. Lets see if Nintendo can make some inroads in the US!

Switch 2 won January by 5k globally even though they lost in the US in Jan and now Feb. So it's not Sony's game to lose, they're already down. The thread is about global sales.

He is talking about the numbers with February's data, which should be out in a couple of hours .. It's 5k behind from January only. February might shift the things in Sony's favor, although 5k or 10k or 20k or even 50k is nothing really when you talk about global sales for the year.

March should be Nintendo's first "substantial" victory.
Pokopia was a success, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force breathed some life into the barren that's Nintendo's line of games for 2026.

I believe Pokopia is moving some hardware. A true unexpected hit, will it turn in a home run?

PS5 performing well at the start of the year shouldn’t be all too surprising— NS2 is holding up very well against PS5 compared to NS1 v PS4 & PS5 v NS1. If it weren’t for GTAVI, I’d be quite confident in NS2 coming out on top…but since GTAVI does exist and will send sales into the stratosphere for PS5, it’s unwise to bet against Sony right now.

Pokopia has made it possible again for NS2 to come out on top, and if a 3D Mario accompanies in Holiday 2026, then it really will be a close battle.

By Vgchartz estimations PS5 is now ahead of the NS2 for the year.

I just added weekly comparison table for both in the first post.

The poll was reset. The thread was created before we had any data for this year. Since then we now have data for both January and February and many people may have changed their mind since both consoles are neck in neck, and PS5 leads slightly for now. Go and vote! The results from the first one are in the bottom of the first post. They are 80% in favor of Switch 2, and only 20% in favor of the PS5. I will keep resetting the poll over a period of 2 or 3 months, to see if and how the people's opinion changes over time, in the different stages of the year and of course each previous poll results will be available in the bottom of the original post.

Sticking with my vote for NS2.

I really cant stop wondering... Why would GTA fans wait to purchase a PS5? Isnt the natural course is having more frontloaded sales as things will get more expensive with time? I wouldn't risk to pass a nice deal like it happened on last Black Friday, specially knowing that my long waited new entry for my favorite franchise is coming soon and I can continue playing my GTA V PS4 copy with enhaced visuals while waiting.

I know we have a data somewhere stating theres a considerable active PS4 userbase, but is there a way we can find the profile of these ps4 players? Bc I wouldn't be so sure that many of them are in the GTA VI waiting game

I mean if we have a considerable active PS4 userbase (we do) and

GTA 5 is one of the top games on the platform (Its the top selling game on the platform)

We can extrapolate that a consequential portion of the active PS4 userbase will be enticed to upgrade on release of the sequel.

I'm skeptical that there is a 'natural couse' or predefined update schedule that this particular fanbase has to adhere to.

But thats not a predefined update schedule, right?

So it makes more sense to wait right after release, even with the odds of the game being delayed again and the console that you are planing to buy gets more expensive.

The first trailer really turned some heads, more than 200M views? It looks the game already got enough people enticed.

That makes 2 black fridays and many ocasional random deals since then. I would bet those that remained to upgrade were in a way long diluting proccess.

It probably just me but I would feel so stupid to look back on all these opportunities that I missed just to deal with a way worse scenario in the present. I know for sure that everybody here consider themselves lucky to get a PS5 before all that RAM calamity.

Now having to spell all this, I really wonder if some people are entering in this thread to give a solid debate or to hold on something...
