Forums - Sales - Nintendo Quarterly Sales Update to 31st Dec 2025: Switch 2 at 17.37m

Beating holiday 2017 was always going to be nigh impossible due to economic circumstances alone, honestly.

8 years ago it was a different world, people were under vastly less financial pressure compared to today. Many folks can hardly afford groceries these days, much less a new console.

Under the circumstances, Switch 2 did remarkably well to even come close.

Did they report Metriod prime 4 sales figures?

No, Nintendo only reports when a game ships 1mil during a single FY. Tricky thing with Metroid is that sales were split between the NS1 and NS2 Edition— I’m not sure we’ll ever know to total figures since one version will likely stay below 1mil for the FY.

What I find most interesting is how DKBananza was actually outsold by games such as MPJamboree and Anima Crossing New Horizons. Heck, even Mario Odyssey came close to outselling DK. My theory has to do with that $70USD price tag… DK should’ve done a lot better. Solid figures for a Donkey Kong game, but this is the big system seller besides MarioKart and Pokémon— it’s getting handily beaten by Mario Odyssey and BotW’s first holiday figures.

I don't really buy the $70 hypothesis considering Kirby Air Riders sold tremendously well for a Kirby spinoff - Already outsold the original Kirby Air Ride in less than two months and is firmly in the top 15 best-selling Kirby games will certainly climb higher in the months and years to come.

The more likely hypothesis could just be as simple as Donkey Kong is not as big of a name as Mario or Zelda.

Since it only just missed it last report, it's now official:

Switch 1 is now the highest selling Nintendo system of all time, topping the DS.

Legends Z-A sold 4,2M in Japan, which is mainline level of sales. Very impressive.

Kirby Air Riders overperformed Sonic Crossworlds WW due to its huge Japanese sales.

DK Bananza sell through in September was at 2,6M which is the reason it shipped less than 800k during the holiday months, because it was a bit overshipped at launch.

"There are no changes to the unit sales forecast for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch"

Is the forecast really 19m still? So they are expecting only a little more than 1.6m shipped this quarter?

No reason for them to make any adjustments, if they overperform their forecast next quarterly report that will just give them a boost from investors.

Nintendo announced Switch 2 sell-through topped 15 million in week 4 of December (Christmas week). Our estimates do have it crossing 15 million in that week, so that might be okay.

Switch 1 we will be adjusting up though as we want the gap smaller at this point.

Looks like we need to adjust it down as we have it too high in RoW. We do have a max of 580K to play with and still have it above 15M for the 4th week of December. Machina will work on that. I'm off to bed as it's really late here and will make some more adjustments to Switch 1 when I get up.

Can you change it to 160 million
