Nintendo's stock is not responding in the way I thought it would.  The stock is down about 5% to 7% today and they are calling its Q3 performance a 'miss'.   Is there something I'm not seeing that the broader market is seeing or is the dip just related to missing the Q3 forecast even if by only a little bit?  Are people worried it can't get to the 19 in Q4?

Stochholders are morons, they consider anything other than "broke all records, line goes up forever" to be disappointing and constantly panic over nothing.

This is sad but true. Imagine once the AI bubble starts to burst. The stock market is gonna crash.

Also Curl the Switch 1 shipped 1.36m so you know. The OP currently says 1.26m.

Thanks, maths is not my strong suit haha. Fixed it.

Makes me regret not taking Financial Literacy in high school and Finance classes in college.

Could've given me an in and then I could sweep in and buy all the stocks these idiots sell and make like Scrooge McDuck.

Mario Kart World is already closing in on Mario Kart 7. Insane numbers.

Glad that DK Bananza is pushing the franchise to new heights.

And hats off to the Switch for finally outselling the DS.

So apparently, if a Switch 2 edition of a Switch 1 game is bought digitally, it is counted as a Switch 1 software purchase rather than a Switch 2 software purchas.e

But if the Switch 2 edition is bought physically, then it is counted as a Switch 2 software purchase.

...Huh???

I expected them to be on track based on the current data.

17.37 million means that Switch 2's first holiday season performed worse than Switch 1's first holiday season and that it may be slightly over tracked - Which suggests that momentum is slowing down for Switch 2 - Not an encouraging sign.

Clearly, a Kirby racing spin-off, a new Hyrule Warriors, and a less-than-glowingly received Metroid Prime, is no substitute for 3D Mario.

Nintendo better deliver on some heavy hitters soon or 2026 may not look too good for Switch 2 in terms of lineup and sales.

And yet despite not having a heavy hitter and dealing with the worst November gaming has had in decades, it sold just slightly below a holiday with 3D Mario, a strong overall holiday in spending, and a bunch of pent up demand finally being met after shortages.

Switch 2 sold 7.01 million this quarter.  Holiday quarter of 2017, Switch 1 sold 7.24 million.  So a bit of slowdown, yes, but honestly a pretty remarkable hold given the circumstances.  And the drop is so objectively mild, I hardly think it's time to panic.

And they seem on track to hit their revised projections from the prior report just fine, probably mildly surpass them.  Honestly, Nintendo seems to have been pretty spot on in anticipating the impact of the various potential issues they might have in the Holiday quarter.

Welcome back, by the way.

Almost missed this, haven't seen you around here in ages!

Good to see you, hope you're well these days. :)

Apparently it's counted as a Switch 1 game digitally because it's a bundle since it comes with the Switch game + upgrade pack.

As for why it's counted for Switch 2 physically? I'm gonna guess because it's sold with the Switch 2 case branding. It's stupid I know, but I can't think of anything else.

Barring a Switch 2 remaster that might suck the wind of its sails, it's looking like Smash Bros Ultimate may yet edge it's way to 40 million.
As of these numbers, it has also surpassed the sales of Mario Kart Wii.
