While I agree the numbers are not that great for this remake in this region, digital wasn't really a thing for MGS4 and for 5 the ratio was super low. The famitsu physical charts just like the UK charts are increasingly inaccurate without all the digital data as Sony now has an 83% digital ratio split from the last quarter onward.

The problem is in Japan more people buy physical than digital, so there's no way the split is 20/80 in that country. At the very most it's 50/50. What we need to also remind ourselves is PS5 isn't a popular console in Japan. PC gaming has grown a lot and most people are on Switch and Mobile. There's even a decent amount still on PS4.

While it is true that Japan historically has preferred physical media over digital and had a slower uptick towards that. People have been telling me on these forums since last gen that Sony could only ever be 50/50 tops with the split. All the while, year after year the digital split for Sony keeps increasing WW so some of that has to happening in Japan as well. It was 50/50 over 5 years ago for FF7R so it definitely increased since then especially with having a digital HW sku and the Pro not bundled with a disk drive. But you are right in the fact that there is no way of knowing the exact % but it has to be a decent amount at this point going into 2026.

We can't prove it either way without the data but imo if it's happening with Sony everywhere else WW then Japan is definitely on the digital uptick for them. Black Myth Wukong tore up the charts on PSN Japan last year and that didn't have a physical version at launch. So there's some growth there for sure, how much at this point, who knows. I just believe at this point with certain titles it's possible to be over 50% and that doesn't have to be the ceiling anymore.

I'm surprised DK Bananza is only #8.

Around the Network

DK Bananza already being the 4th bestselling game of the year at retail (with DK Country Returns HD right behind at 5th place) is pretty good and cool to see.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

@XtremeBG.  Anything above 700k is a hard ask in my opinion. I think 750k might be the ceiling.

DK Bananza holds significant potential for future installments. I hope it enjoys strong longevity and continues to grow through word-of-mouth, as every person I know who owns it highly recommends it.

sure, I guess if in Japan you have a 80 percent ratio like that, the game would have sold closer to 250k which is not bad.

Also, after only 4 days of tracking MGS Delta was the #1 selling game on PSN Japan for the month of August which was announced this morning on their blog.
