Well, in 4 days, Nintendo just eclipsed 4 months of PS5 sales. So it’s not just looking like a Nintendo win, but it might not even be close.

And now that we have VGChartz numbers, it looks like Switch 2 leads in 2025 after just 4 weeks on the market vs 6 months of PS5. Switch 2 satisfied the requirement of an unprecedented supply at launch and flew so high above the record that Pachter’s head reportedly disconnected from his spine, flew up, and spun around 37 times, before falling back into place and reconnecting.

So .. console gaming was dead eh ? If we need to have that types of discussions who will sell more, than it's not dead. Sony is doing good, Nintendo is doing more than good, only if Microsoft could join the party .. I miss those 360 days .. We could have one interesting relatively close battle between the three now instead of just Sony and Nintendo ..

But yeah with launch like this, I don't think Switch 2 will sell anything below 100M lifetime. And that is the base minimum, I don't want to speak too soon, but it's looking very good for now. At this time I see it way more likely Switch 2 will sell definitely more than PS5 this year. It's holiday will be 10M at minimum, it can do another 5M by the start of November. So 20M for the year should be guarantee. While PS5 will end up somewhere around 16-17M.

Well this competition is over. No way ps5 outsells switch 2 for the remainder of the year.

pretty crazy.

So we weren't quite over the top optimistic about Switch 2? Well what do you know! I imagine Switch 2 could lead PS5 by around 1 million for the year.

The big advantage the Switch 2 has is that it will dominate PS5 sales in Japan this year, meaning even if PS5 ships more in total than Switch 2 in NA/EU this year, the huge Japanese sales difference should put the Switch 2 over PS5 in 2025 shipments.

It could, but I think looking ahead it will outpace PS5 in 2026. GTA VI is not even enough to change that. Yes, GTA VI will help sell some PS5 consoles, but plenty of the players will be people who already have a PS5.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

That aged badly

To be fair the Switch 2 needed an absolutely record shattering first 7 months to have any shot so I think the reasoning was fine. Due to the circumstances the PS5 was a heavy favourite though unlikely events do happen occasionally. I never fully discounted the possibility while others said there was no chance the Switch 2 does it so there's worse aging posts in here. Hell Rol basically said the same sort of thing I did back in May as well.

yet i was the one who was bold lol. It wasn’t hard to see that 2.1mil pre-order requests from JP alone would equate to record-shattering figures.

(i should've just multi-quoted you lol.) Not sure if “boldâ€Â is the right word: Nintendo had been making a big statement about how they would meet Switch 2 demand, and seeing that that JP had 2.2mil pre-order requests, it then must follow Nintendo would likely be seeing nothing short of 5mil in June alone (2.8mil from EU+NA is a conservative estimate according to JP demand). And knowing that demand would not slow down, expecting 3-5mil for the Fall quarter & 10mil for the Christmas quarter fall very in-line with reality.

15m shipments in 10 months will be basically the fastest of all time if achieved afaik. With the numbers you've put they'd be doing about 22-24m in 10 months, shipping over 50% faster than the previous fastest selling console of all time. 18-20m in 7 months was never on the cards.

also, turns out i was correct…at least, as far as June is concerned. You guys should’ve listened.

Well damn, this one was over before it even started!
