Even with the Pro release Ps5 cannot get a week higher than last year. BTW what was going on last year for PS5?

Switch king of Japan, stable year on year

Here. Last week's sales. PS5 was up dramatically YOY.

@Signalstar

PS5 was 107.953 last year, this year including the Pro it was 88.160. First page. I don't see this as an indicator of "dramatically up".

I think you used the wrong table.🙂

Dramatically up from last week is what he said. Same time last year the slim released.  It even beat the switch last year so it definitely wasn't a normal week. PS5 pro beat the PS4 pro 1st week so it's not too bad even though it's over twice the price and without a disc drive

And on top of that, it's not fare to compare PS5 to the same week last year, since it was out of stock for a full month. Of course holding out for entire month of buying can result in more sales than release of Pro model.

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 140M+ Club Chart

Polls: When will the Switch: Outsell the DS? / Outsell the PS2? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX

The big question is how the sales will be during the next three weeks

Last year after the launch of the Slim, weekly sales stayed at ~60k for two weeks before dropping to the 40k-45k range until the end of the year. Now we'll see if the boost in sales was just for one or two weeks or if the baseline, which currently is in the 10k-15k range, has risen now with the launch of the Pro model.

Well, we don't know how much the ratio is compared to digital sales, which were pretty much non-existant on the DS and 3DS. It's possible that physical + digital sales taken together would amount to something more akin to Dream Team or even, if unlikely, Partners In Time in terms of sales.

You make a good point. No idea how it slipped my mind that digital sales are not included here. So, Brothership could be as high as third best seller? Not bad. The drop in Mario RPG sales, however, is a little bit shocking: SMRPG sell 330k physical during JP launch, TTYD sells 150k physical during JP launch, and M&L sells 60k physical during JP launch. That's more than -80% difference from 12m ago.

But also there's the fact that this is the first M&L game on a console. Lot of Switch owners are gonna be people who have never played M&L before, and while Paper Mario is well known to Nintendo console owners, and SMRPG is a beloved classic, M&L is a new thing for many of us since it's only ever been on portables. Personally I have no idea what M&L is like, though I do plan to play the original on NSO which will help me decide if I might be interested in this new game.

Between that and the fact that this is the fourth Mario RPG game on Switch and the third in 12 months I don't think it's too terribly shocking that there is less interest in this one. Was a bad decision by Nintendo to jam so many Mario RPG games into the past 12 months, especially with the only new one of those three games coming last.

@killer7

and

@Pinkie_pie

You are both wrong. I was responding to a poster who claimed that the PS5 could not get a week of sales higher than last year. I showed him sales from last week, Week 44 that were much higher than Week 44 in 2023, the year before, proving that PS5 already did have at least one week higher YOY.

My post has nothing to do with sales of the PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro.

It’s low key 6 Mario RPGs if you count the two Mario and Rabbids titles, yeah maybe a bit of Mario themed rpg fatigue lol

I don't know if I would say this is a strong launch, to not even get over 100k.

It sold 20% more than PS4 Pro did at launch, at more than double the price.

PS4 Pro - 65,194 units at 45,000 yen ($288 USD)
PS5 Pro - 78,086 units at 120,000 yen ($770 USD)

It's almost 3 times as expensive.
Considering its price, I think launch week figures are quite good.

Fair point! I didn't realise the PS4 pro launch was that weak! And my God the price difference is outrageous

Your conversions are a bit off because the yen is worth much less vs. the dollar today than it was in 2016.  Using 2016 exchange rates for the PS4 Pro, it comes out to $422 USD.

So, the PS5 is still a lot more than the PS4 was, but effectively a little less than double the price.
