When will the Switch pass 160M?

By end of June 2026 1 1.92%

By end of 2026 6 11.54%

By end of 2027 19 36.54%

By end of 2028 7 13.46%

Never 19 36.54%

Total:52

I find it incredibly hard to believe that the PS2 sold 160M units. It would be such a milestone achievement for Sony to announce and for them to say nothing is very hard to believe. The best selling console ever to hit 160M and nothing to be officially reported? Yeah nah

When Switch pass 160M will Sony officially confirm that PS2 sold 160+? If Sony won't make any announcement, does that will confirm PS2 didn't pass the 160M mark?

We reap what we sow

Yeah I also don't buy that Sony passed 160 million PS2s without saying anything until Jim randomly claims it on a podcast it more than a decade after the fact. He was probably rounding to the nearest 10m for a sexy sounding number.

If the new system is easy on the wallet I think the Switch will hit the famed cliff and radically reduce its sales. But it will manage before the end of 2026 to kick down the PS2 for the top spot, a position I think it will keep for a very long time.

We went over this a million times already. The minimum is 158m, not 155m (because PS3 numbers are known and can't magically go over 90m like some of you are suggesting). The maximum is 162m not 160m. However 160m is unlikely due to Sony not officially disclosing 160m, Jim Ryan could have rounded up.

ZhugeEX an insider with actual sales numbers gave his own thoughts of 159.2m to 161.9m

My personal prediction for years is 159.Xm due to the above mentioned.

The OP's 160m would clearly surpass the PS2.

I predicted by the end of 2025.

I have written the max and the minimum of all opinions on the web, so there are no debates, and include as much different options as possible just for the explanation and to show objectivity, not bias or personal opinion on the matter. The poll and the thread is strictly about passing 160M for simplicity. PS2 numbers are unknown. If it's for my personal opinion PS2 should be anywhere around 158M-159M

Since the recent announcement officially by Sony of PS2 selling over 160M, I readjusted and updated my chart (which had PS2 sitting at 158.7M, now it's 160.01M just like VGChartz has it) in the original post, alongside editing a little bit the post itself. So anyone who hasn't voted yet, now is the moment. I will reset the poll again after the holidays reports come out (and will save that one in the bottom of the post of course).

Why would he lie? It would just make him look bad if Sony later announces it didn't sell 160m. I just don't get why you and many people here didn't believe Jim who was playstation's boss. He would be one of the few who would know

They just didn't want to believe. End of story.

And by the way, Stop wasting your time replying to such comments.

- Switch 2 will be expensive, something between 400 and 500$.
- Every game that can will also be released on switch for many years
- Switch lite will still be a great device in its value range (150$ to 200$) for many years.
So, I think it will be selling slow and steady, and pass 160M mark by 2027 or 2028.
