27.5% drop in March YoY. It just keeps plunging and won't reach 40m without reversing the trend that has been continuing for over 2 years now.

Xbox 360's worst March: 397k (2007)
Xbox Ones worst March: 429k (2019)

Xbox Series March 2025: 264k

GTA 6 is basically the saving grace that might stop it from selling under 3.5m this year, and the 4.7m last year was already the worst non-launch year for a current Xbox on record.

360's 2007 is 440k, it's 2006's march where it's 397k. Also going by the numbers you meant from their years on the market where they were the major console for Microsoft right ? cuz both have weaker March months after they were replaced. It's funny to address that 360's 2014 March was almost 180k, not so far from the Series now .. when the 360 was the last gen console at that time, since XB1 released 5 months earlier.

That remaining 7 million and change may as well be a lightyear at the rate it's moving.

It's dead everywhere but America, and even there it's getting whipped. I'd also reject the idea that GTA6 will be some kind of Hail Mary; most people will just play that on PS5, and MS is barely bothering to even stock Xbox any more, so there wouldn't be the supply to take advantage of any boost anyway.

Yeah I no longer see Xbox Series hitting 40 million even with GTA6.

Console gaming is too expensive and continues to get price hikes, the game itself may be priced as high or higher than Nintendo's upcoming games. And last but not least, I don't know if Microsoft cares about Xbox hardware enough to take advantage of GTA6's craze. There is also the small but not non-existent possibility of GTA6 being a major disappointment.

On the other hand, this generation may last forever, and there is a huge room for future pricedrops. "XboxDecks" could add a few million as well. The next generational transition will be interesting. I'm of the opinion that next gen consoles will have a much slower start and that at least Sony will continue to manufacture PS5's long after it's replaced.

GTA 6 can mostly boost Xbox in the US, for people in Europe and Japan well over 90-95 % of people buying GTA 6 will buy it on PS5. In the US at least Xbox will get some of the benefits of GTA 6, even if most of it will go to PS5 in the US as well.

GTA VI will boost the PS5 and PS5 Pro sales far more than the Xbox Series.

Yeah it looks to be a demanding game, Pro and PC will be the best place to play it.
GTA 6 will boost PS5 Pro sales more than Series X.

I'm optimistic about R* using of PS5's and Series' hardware capabilities to a level we haven't seen yet.

I still have very fond memories of RDR2 running on vanilla PS4 and blowing me out of the water. And this was a 1.84TF machine.

I gotta admit I'm curious to find out about the Series S performance.

But I trust R* regarding engine optimization. I'd bet 100 bucks on Series X and PS5 will run GTA6 very stable.

And I truly believe GTA6 will be kind of the first 3rd party title to show us true "next-gen level". I truly believe that.

UE5 just ... isn't there yet.

i change my mind: XBSX will not hit 40mil. It might come very close—and if it does hit 40mil, it won’t be by much—but this latest price hike is the final straw. Xbox has lost is economical leverage over PS5… GTAVI cannot save this system.

Nail in the coffin

https://www.eurogamer.net/confirmed-xbox-console-prices-are-going-up-worldwide

US:

Xbox Series X will cost $599.99, up a whopping $100.
The 512GB Xbox Series S will meanwhile cost $379.99, up $80.
The 2TB Xbox Series X is now $729.99, up $130, and now more expensive than Sony's $699 PS5 Pro.

Europe:

Xbox Series X will cost £499.99 / €599.99 - an increase of £20 / $50.
The 512GB Xbox Series S will meanwhile cost £299.99 / €349.99 - an increase of £50 / €50.
If you're splashing out on the 2TB Xbox Series X model, that's up £40 or €50 to £589.99 / €699.99.

The prices of some upcoming Xbox games will rise to $80 (UK price TBA) at the end of this year, though existing games will not increase be impacted. Still, expect this fresh pricing to roll out in time for Call of Duty 2025 and whatever else Microsoft has out this Christmas.

The cost of certain controllers - and in the US, also headsets - will see small increases, too. The cost of Xbox Game Pass is staying the same, however.

For now GP is not increasing in price, but no doubt subscriptions will be next.
