It has to if they want to get closer to their FY Target.

That's more like it. But it highlights how poorly it performed in the US. With GTA6 and MH Wilds not releasing in 2024, and no major pricedrops in sight, I expect a 5 million~ decline in sales YoY. 2025 will pick up by 2 or 3 million, then it's a constant decline for the remainder of the console's life.
It'll probably still outsell the PS4 by a decent margin thanks to:
1. Series X/S falling.
2. Longer life (probably).
3. Potentially not suffering the "production cliff" PS4 saw.
But this assumes the economy won't hurt the market much.

About the november US figures, are the previous years novembers that you compare include the last week of november ? Cuz if all the previous years of the previous consoles include last week of november and this year is not, then it's not exactly fair. With the last week of november (as it should be) of course the PS5 would be up.

The same goes for this, those other novembers may be until the end of the november therefore not include the last days of october, and include the last days of november as it should be. PS5 numbers are only till 25th.. and include 3 days of october as well.

Based on what the PS5 has sold Jan-Nov I'm expecting it to finish this year at about 22.5m sales. I think this could be it's peak year which would be a year earlier than usual, but I also expect 2024 sales to be fairly similar, so just a mild decline. I think that dropping to ~17.5m would be pretty extreme. A ~23% drop YoY at that stage of a PlayStation's life would be very severe. Even a year later in 2018 the PS4 only dropped 8% from it's peak.

With generation continuing till 2028, 2023 can't be it's peak year. It will be at least at 2023 level however if they announce and launch PS5 Pro as the rumours are, it may even surpass the 2023 just like PS4's peak year was the year after the Pro launched - 2017. We have GTA 6 coming in 2025 too. So I think 2024 will be at least on par with 2023 for the PS5, and 2025 may have just a little decline in the sort of around 2-3M but again hovering around 20M for the year. 2026 is where declines may began, but again it is far too early to call, we don't know if and when will there be pricecuts, what games will launch, and much more.
