Forums - Sales - PS5 Ships 46.6 Million Units as of September 2023

Hardware sales are up 1.6 million year over year for this quarter and after Q2 totals 8.2 million versus 5.7 million last fiscal year.

Versus PS4

For the 2nd quarter of the 3rd full FY (yellow) the 4.9 million the PS5 shipped is 1 million up on PS4's 3.9 million. After 12 quarters PS5 totals 46.6 million compared to 47.6 million for PS4. This means launch aligned the PS5 is 1 million down on PS4.

PS5 versus current competitors

After 12 quarters PS5 totals 46.6 million compared to 25.3 million (est) for XBS and 52.48 million for NSW. This means launch aligned the PS5 is 21.3 million (est) up on XBS and 5.88 million down on NSW. It should be noted that PS5's Q3 is one quarter after NSW's when launch aligned so the PS5 should catch up after it's next quarter.

Note: XBS hardware shipments are my personal estimates based on the limited information available.

Thanks for the article William, much appreciated it.

And gotta give them credit, they mostly did it with a $499/€549 machine. By this time back in 2016, the PS4 was $299. Crazy!!

Combined 1st party sales/legs on consoles are getting weaker and weaker. Good results apart from that.

I mean, the last first party game released from SIE was GOW:R in November 2022.

there were no first party game launches this quarter the last launch was god of war ragnarok and yet there were more than 4 million first party games in the next quarter this number will be close to 15 million

Will has made some more adjustments. We got Switch spot on this quarter but unfortunately undertracked PS5 by a few hundred K; the vast majority of it must be in un-tracked markets (Asia and RoW), so that's where the adjustments have been made.

Spider-Man 2 figures have been added to the GameDB, and both Spider-Man series have been updated too.

You forget about the inflation ..

299$ is now almost 399$ which we have the digital edition through october available for the same price..

399$ (since the PS4 price was so till the slim released in september 2016) is now 511$, so even higher.

My primary threads:

Ultimate Showdowns: JP 2023 / JP 2024 / JP 2025 / 2025 / 2024 / 2023 / 20222021

Lifetime Showdowns: Global / Regional / Historical / YOY Charts / 150M+ Club Chart

Best holiday months / When will the Switch pass 160M? / LT expectations of: Switch / PS5 / XBSX / Switch 2

PS5 only 1m behind PS4 in shipments now. Next quarter should be the overtaking point, PS5 should be over 57m by the end of 2023.

Really if they plan on hitting the 25m forecast I think they need to beat Switch's peak holiday quarter. I don't see them having as strong a q4 as last fiscal year which was boosted by the poor stock situation prior.

Even with an 11.6m holiday quarter they'll still need a very strong 5.2m Q4. Better than any PS4/Switch Q4 again.

It's good to see that at least 2 manufacturers are still having amazing results with console hardware and giving that side of the business focus.

We had a bet on PS5 + Series X/S not hitting 56m units by the end of 2023.

The PS5 alone will do that.

Yes definitely in shipments at least. In terms of sell-through combined Is probably going to be around 83m. Basically a massive 50% higher sales than that prediction.
