This holiday sure will be interesting, with Europe's last breath on the Switch's sale. Depending on how much faith Nintendo puts on this region adding to the fact it won't be able to ship more units to there, we can see a high shipment to Europe, more than we would normally expect, which would contribute to the 160M mission. The only argument against this is the 2 million shipments goal Nintendo set for themselves in the begining of the current fiscal year. When the set that number, they probably already had thought on how to deal with Europe and its new battery regulamentation

What if that big 199 euro sale is exactly the opposite ? Not doing new shipments but clearing out the last shipments in order for Nintendo to be sure that there will be no stock left by February because they would not be able to ship and sell new ones?

The only reason I see for them to do this is if the Switch couldn't be sold in Europe anymore post-February. As far as I know, the regulamention tackles the shipment of products to Europe post-February, not their sales after this month

Yeah, this should be found out. Is it so in reality? Is it 100% sure? Cuz if they can sell whatever they want, they can ship 5M units before February and sell them for 2 more years. There should be some limitations to that. This would be abuse imo. And since there would be 100% limitations, they would be limited in how much unsold units they can leave on the store shelves, if they can leave any at all.

That's a possibility I fear too.

Is it feasible to retrieve the stock and resell it after changing the package and adding a game?

Lite will come with tomodachi included, which is a recent game.

OG Ns will come with mario kart 8 dx, pre existing bundle (maybe this is having a clearance, being the oldest hardware and the least popular among the three by far)

Both titles in physical form.

In that scenario, are you implying that we would see zero shipments in the last two fiscal quarters?

First of all I can't know anything for sure, and can't be sure. I am just giving it as a possibility. However if that is really the case, then either zero shipments for Europe, or very little, and those little will be in this holiday quarter, no in the next year's one.

For reference Switch 1 has shipped 40.14M in Europe till end of June, and has sold 39.96M till end of September according to VGChartz. If none were shipped last quarter there are still ~200k unsold units. If there were some shipped there will be 300 or 400k left to sell (depends on what were shipped in the last quarter that ends in September), but for reference the last two quarters shipments to Europe were 120k and 110k respectively.

If we have to do the math, Switch 1 is selling between 30 to 40k each month all year. Put another 30k for October. Put some 60k for November, it's often double the normal month (last year was even lower). Put some 100k for December, and you got a possible sales of around 200k more. Exactly about what the shipments to sold gap is. You want to throw in January ? Okay some 25k more. Doesn't make the difference. Either way they can live without those, or just had some 50k more shipped in the last quarter and it's done.

I wonder if Nintendo would abandon the UK all together regarding the Switch 1. It's a market Nintendo struggles, so they can either focus on the Switch 2 because it is the company's main producut or insist on the Switch 1 due to it being a cheaper and friendlier costumer option

Looking really bleak for the Switch 1 and the biggest reason why is Japan. The YoY declines are crazy.

I saw it. Nice math. Funny how the two options are completely different from each other.

Whether or not the Switch sells 160M units, the moment it surpasses the Nintendo DS (154.02M), I’m thrilled that every single unit sold is rewriting Nintendo’s history!!!XD

I think this is a valid take. No matter if the big N beats other companies in the business, the switch is their best selling console ever. Beating once own record is a fair bar to set for improvement over time.
