Not great but not terrible, I guess.

"In terms of units sold every platform is down year-on-year. PS5 unit sales dropped six percent compared to July 2025, while Xbox Series X|S declined 18 percent and Switch 2 fell 51 percent."

A 51% drop for Switch 2 seems pretty steep.  I realize July was the second month on the market last year for Switch 2, but that still seems like a steep drop.  I'll be interested in seeing how Switch 2 performs in August YoY.

After the last two months for PS5 being awful, to only drop 6% YoY here with a price rise is a big surprise. Especially as it's unit sales.

We all completly missed the mark on Xbox sales.

Pretty surprising month really with the PS5 being nearly flat and the Xbox Series being down. The latter is gonna basically be dead now but the former might have more life in it left than expected, at least until it gets another price increase. The Switch 2 had a massive decline YoY and did worse than the Switch 1 did in July 2018 which is concerning considering it's gonna get a price increase soon.

Xbox situation is absolutely dreadful.... that was the last chance to buy the console relatively cheap.

Switch 2 result is meh considering a price hike is coming very soon.

PS5 shockingly strong. A small 6% unit sales decline despite the price hike and bad PR. Pretty much zero immediate perceptible impact from the disc controversy. It may really be over, disc bros...

Xbox And EA aren’t sharing U.S. digital sales data with Circana anymore •
As of July 2026, Xbox is no longer a Circana digital data sharing panel participating publisher •
EA also dropped its Circana membership around the time it went private •
Circana relies on publishers/platforms to share digital storefront sales; physical sales still come from retailers •
Xbox’s exit hides first-party U.S. digital sales, including Call of Duty •
It also further obscures sales for publishers not on the panel, such as Ubisoft and now EA •
Nintendo already does not share digital data; its Circana numbers are estimates •
July software charts now involve more guesswork because of the missing sources •
Remaining panel members include Bandai Namco, Capcom, Crystal Dynamics, Disney Interactive, Eidos, Konami, Plaion, Sega, Sony, Square Enix, Take-Two, and Warner Bros. •
Digital already makes up a huge share of sales, so losing digital data leaves a much weaker picture •
PlayStation is ending disc production in 2028, which would make Circana even more dependent on platforms sharing data •
Unconfirmed reports say Xbox may also have pulled out of Game Sales Data (GSD) in Europe •
Less public sales data makes it easier for companies to control narratives around hits, misses, and layoffs

Circana should just start replacing the missing data with the number 0.  The lack of transparency is what lead to the disc drama in the first place.  They basically hid the fact that physical had dropped to the degree it had which prevented consumers from being able to inform how their habits were shapping the industry.  Sony for its part has documented its sales breakdown publicly for some time.
