NS2 Best-Seller as Sales Top 16M LT - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for December 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console worldwide with 3,813,393 units sold for December 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 16.09 million units lifetime.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console, with an estimated 3,382,873 units sold, to bring lifetime sales to 89.44 million units. The Nintendo Switch 1 was the third best-selling console, with an estimated 781,879 units sold, to bring lifetime sales to 153.55 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 438,194 units sold, to bring its lifetime sales to 34.17 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are down by nearly 900,000 units, as the Switch 1 sold 4,282,500 units in December 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by nearly 265,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by nearly 2.06 million units. The PS4 sold 3,647,705 units for the month of December 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 2,493,540 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 583,573 (-14.7%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 510,898 units (-53.8%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 1,845,606 units (-70.2%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are up by over 1.99 million units, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 122,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by over 212,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are up by nearly 397,000 units.

2025 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 17.41 million units, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 16.09 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 4.89 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 2.55 million units.

PS5 Best-Seller as Sales Remain Flat YoY - Europe Hardware Estimates for December 2025

The PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in Europe with 1,380,805 units sold for December 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The PS5 has sold 31.71 million units lifetime. 

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 807,570 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 3.37 million units. The Nintendo Switch 1 was the third best-selling console with an estimated 215,177 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 39.61 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 82,049 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 8.50 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are down by nearly 202,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 1,009,224 units in Europe in December 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by over 18,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 568,000 units. PS4 sold 1,399,011 units for the month of December 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 650,418 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 8,813 (-0.6%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 82,087 units (-50.0%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 689,611 units (-76.2%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, PlayStation 5 sales are down by nearly 475,000 units, Switch 2 sales are up by nearly 359,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by nearly 19,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are up by nearly 101,000 units.

2025 year-to-date, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 6.98 million units, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 3.37 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 1.18 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.61 million units.

Switch 2 Outsells PS5 - Americas Hardware Estimates for December 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in the Americas (USA, Canada, & Latin America) with 1.25 million units sold for December 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 5.45 million units lifetime.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 1.23 million units sold to bring lifetime sales to 35.01 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in third place with 331,751 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 21.25 million units. The Nintendo Switch was the fourth best-selling console with an estimated 296,787 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 58.59 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are down by over 533,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 1.79 million units in the Americas in December 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are up by over 2,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 1.15 million units. PS4 sold 1.22 million units for the month of December 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 1.48 million units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 496,190 (-28.8%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 381,608 units (-53.5%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 733,664 units (-71.2%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are up by nearly 691,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 284,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are up by over 185,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are up by nearly 195,000 units.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 5.45 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 5.22 million units, the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.73 million units, and the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 1.60 million units.

Switch 2 Dominates as Sales Top 4M - Japan Hardware Estimates for December 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in Japan with 1,032,351 units sold for December 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Nintendo Switch 2 has now sold an estimated 4.02 million units lifetime.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold an estimated 184,308 units to bring its lifetime sales to 36.50 million units. The PlayStation 5 sold an estimated 113,837 units to bring its lifetime sales to 7.33 million units. The Xbox Series X|S sold 1,067 units to bring their lifetime sales to 0.69 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the same month for the Switch 1 in 2017 are up by nearly 109,000 units as the Switch 1 sold 923,608 units in Japan in December 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are down by nearly 219,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 1,000 units. PS4 sold 332,643 units for the month of December 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 2,369 units.

Nintendo Switch 1 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 285,991 units (-60.8%). PlayStation 5 sales are down by 56,605 (-33.2%) and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 9,540 units (-89.9%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are up by nearly 616,000 units, Nintendo Switch 1 sales are up by nearly 73,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 27,000 units, and Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 500 units.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold an estimated 4.02 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 1.44 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold 0.86 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 0.03 million units.
