Switch 2 vs Switch 1 Sales Comparison in Japan - November 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 178,205 - Switch 2

Total Lead: 1,454,493 - Switch 2

Switch 2 Total Sales: 2,985,969

Switch 1 Total Sales: 1,531,476

November 2025 is the 6th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 0.18 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is now ahead of the Switch 1 by 1.45 million units.

The 6th month for the Switch 2 is November 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is August 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 2.99 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 1.53 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 36.32 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 33.33 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in Japan - November 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020 in Japan, while the PlayStation 4 launched in February 2014. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 3,054 - PS5

Gap change over last 12 months: 511,884 - PS4

Total Lead: 827,546 - PS4

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 7,218,044

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 8,045,590

November 2025 is the 61st month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 5 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 4 by 3,054 units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.51 million units. The PS5 is currently behind the PS4 by 0.83 million units.

The 61st month for the PS5 in Japan is November 2025, while for the PS4 it is February 2019. The PS5 has sold 7.22 million units, while the PS4 sold 8.05 million units during the same timeframe.

The PS4 crossed 8.5 million in month 68, 9 million in month 72, and 9.5 million in month 84. The PS4 sold 9.68 million units lifetime. The PS5 is currently 2.46 million units behind the lifetime sales of the PS4 in Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 1.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 in the US and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup.

Switch 2 Vs. Switch 1 US:

November 2025 is the 6th month that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been available for in the US. During the latest month, the Switch 2 has outsold the Switch 1 by 0.26 million units when you align the launches. The Switch 2 is now ahead of the Switch 1 by 1.49 million units.

The 6th month for the Switch 2 is November 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is August 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 3.49 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 2.01 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 48.52 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 45.03 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.

Switch 2 is the successor for Nintendo's best selling system. While the Switch 1 succeded the Wii U, one of their biggest failures.

That gives Switch 2 an advantage, since people got some hype from Switch 1. Now, Nintendo must keep the software lineup strong. A Direct with at least one strong first-party title could help.

PS5 vs PS4 Sales Comparison in the US - November 2025

This monthly series compares the aligned US sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

PS5 Vs. PS4 US:

Gap change in latest month: 510,087 - PS4

Gap change over last 12 months: 747,507 - PS4

PlayStation 5 Total Sales: 27,694,378

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 27,222,093

November 2025 is the 61st month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 0.51 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 0.75 million units. The PS5 is currently ahead of the PS4 by 0.47 million units.

The PS5 has sold 27.69 million units in 61 months, while the PS4 sold 27.22 million units. Month 61 for the PS5 is November 2025 and for the PS4 is November 2018.

The PS4 crossed 28 million in month 62, 30 million in month 71, and 32 million in month 74. The PS4 sold 34.93 million units lifetime in the US. The PS5 is 7.24 million units behind lifetime PS4 sales in the US.

PS5 loses over half it's USA lead in a month. What a crap BF it was in USA this year lol.

It's gonna get worse next year. I think the PS5 in the U.S. is now gonna end up falling behind PS4 like in Japan. Europe is right now the saving grace for the system.

Worse, not necessarily. Yes, sales may not be so high in the US now for the PS5, and even going forward, however so are the PS4 ones. We enter into 2019 year, where PS4 dropped from 5.2M the previous year to 3.8M. With GTA VI incoming, PS5 might be on par with this year or even slightly above. It's 3.1M now in the US, so with December it should hit 4M. From there 2020 was incredibly weak for the PS4, and after that it's done nothing.

The 6th month for the Switch 2 is November 2025, while for the Switch 1 it is August 2017. The Switch 2 has sold 2.78 million units, while the Switch 1 sold 1.51 million units during the same timeframe.

The Nintendo Switch 1 sold 39.36 million units to date. The Switch 2 is currently 36.58 million units behind the lifetime sales of the Switch 1.
