Forums - Sales - Black Friday Week USA. PS5 #1, Switch 2 #2, Nex Playground #3

I had never heard of the Nex Playground until last week but it seems to be a Kinect like device which is cool since the last version of the Kinect came out 12 years ago so there's been plenty of time for that technology to get a lot better so nice to see a company take another crack at it. Xbox Series not even being the 3rd best selling console in the US during black Friday week is just sad, during black friday 2017 it wasn't far behind the PS4 in the US. Also the Switch 2 makes up a similar percentage of sales as the Switch 1 did back in black friday 2017 so if it can pull that off with a weaker holiday line-up than the Switch had then things are looking good for next year when it gets the gen 10 Pokemon games.

I actually wonder how GTA will impact Pokemon gen 10 next year, it won't matter in Japan at all, but will it get any attention in the US and Europe or will everyone just focus on GTA?

Pokemon is one of those series where it shouldn't matter that much. There's millions upon millions of Pokemon fans who will buy every new major Pokemon game no matter what and won't be into GTA as much as COD fans are. There will want at least a little gap but the first week of November would work fine for it I think.

I wouldn't hold my breath that Pokémon Wind/Waves is coming 2026. The same leaked schedule had Legends ZA coming 2024. If they manage it will be a great help to Switch 2 though. It has a weaker year one lineup than Switch 1 did so they need a strong second year of games. IDK when the other heavy hitters (3d Zelda, 3d Mario, animal crossing, smash) are coming. None of them feel like they're gonna show in 2026 to me, but Nintendo gotta have something big for next year.

Since the gap between SV and WW would already be the longest gap between generations since 4 and 5 and they didn't release anything in 2024 I'd be fairly surprised if it doesn't make it though it would be a pleasant surprise in a way since it would really show that they're gonna stop rushing out the games going forward.

Thats why Sony is always dominated by Nibtendo in PROFITS. Not revenue. Facts. Keep discountin' the PS5, it will never outsell the Switch or Switch 2 when all things are said and done. Facts.

PS5 selling twice as much as Switch 2 in USA was not in my book

The market was starving for a fairer priced PS5. It would sell loads if the price was kept at least ~50 USD less expensive than it was at launch

Twice as much, but for a single week. Keep this in mind because just the week before the Switch 2 Mario kart bundle was the best-selling SKU and it will probably be #1 again the week after black friday.

PlayStation's promotions end on December 18th. They could still generate significant sales figures even after Black Friday.

What did i just wake up to?

PS5 dominating Europe during Black friday is mainly due to their Brand power and steeper discounts over other regions (150 euros off digital).

PS5 outselling the Switch 2 in the US is an achievement in and of itslef, But outselling it by over 2 to 1 is mind boggling when you take into account the following-

-PS5 5 years old vs Switch 2- 6 months old

- PS5 discounts aren't that steep compared to Europe- 399$ digital and 449$ standard (
100$ vs 150 euros off). Swtich 2 has also had 50$ off at most retailers.
So the PS5 is just 50$ cheaper than the Switch 2.

- Generally, Nintendo sells more than Playstation in the US- looking at their previous consoles- Switch 1- >53 million vs PS4- 38 million.

My prediction was that Switch 2 would be #1 for black friday in the US. Need to update my prediction in the other thread.

Those PS5 November numbers are going to be Explosive.

looks like Nintendo is getting slaughtered this holiday

Wow! PS5 did great during Black Friday. Out of curiosity, what were the deals at the time?

I am getting some déjà vu from November 2017 NPD. The thread that started the Cliff cultism.

We reap what we sow

Microsoft is not making another console. They may put their name on a PC in the way they did with Asus' ROG Ally... but they are not shipping another Xbox hardware. The next box is pre-built PC and it will be absurdly expensive. These sales are just too bad. You know the truth is Microsoft probably wants to cut the costs of hardware completely. The sad thing is Microsoft is a much larger corporation than Sony and could have eaten the costs way easier than Sony so that shows you that Microsift doesn't want consoles.

PS and Nintendo continue to have little impact on each others sales. The Switch 1 didn't hurt the PS4, the PS5 didn't hurt the Switch 1 and the Switch 2 wont hurt the PS5, vice-versa.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. We can't know exactly what is the impact, and we can't be sure and know how much exactly one is hurting or is not the other. Since to find out we should have a scenario where the one is simply not on the market, and some alternate reality where is. We can't be sure how much the PS4 would sell during 2017, 2018 and 2019, if the Switch 1 wasn't a thing. We also can't be sure how much more the Switch 1 could've sell in those years if PS4 wasn't a thing, or how much more could've sell in 2022, 2023, 2024 if PS5 wasn't a thing. and vice versa. The fact they all do well, and can co exist and do well at the same time, doesn't mean that they don't have impact, or that they wouldn't do better if the other wasn't on the market. And we also can't say how big would this difference be, 500k for the year, or 2M for the year, or 4M for the year. The fact that neither have dropped much doesn't mean it couldn't be even higher from the point it actually was. Doing okay, doesn't mean it couldn't be better. Yes they have differences between, yes one maybe bought more for handheld use (or not), however many of the families and people even in general have tight budget and wants only one system, and when they go to the store they choose only one. So even if they have differences at the end of the day they are all gaming devices. And as such, they are competitors when it comes to people's wallets. And big portion of the people choose only one. Not both. This makes the impact between each other a thing. How big impact ? We can only speculate. Disagree anyone who wants, but I have worked 3 years in a video game store, and I have seen it with my eyes. (and this is not the only source from which I reach to this conclusion).

p.s. @Zippy6 this is not directly to you only, but to everyone. Just picked your post as an example to quote.
