Thats insane! As i said this holiday(bf) could be a record breaking year for ps5.

I do think Nintendo should pivot away resources from Europe and put that into more promising markets.

Honestly, the real surprise is the Hades 2 for Switch 2 sold more than Pokémon Legends Z-A and Kirby combined.

And that is a nice surprised! A good game selling better than "trash Pokemon" and "mid Kirby".

Yeah, Hades 1 is one of the best games I have ever played ( I finished the gamed 3 times on pc, 1 time on switch and 1 time on Xbox One). In the case of Hades II, I need to buy the game (I'll buy in the next Steam Winter Sale).

As per the article, the Switch 2 was discounted by 50 euros.
It's not usual for a system to go sale that launched less than six months ago.

For a five year old PS5 (even with 150 off) to outsell it by over 4 to 1 is quite impressive.

And why would it be a surprise for you that PS is more popular than Nintendo in Europe?

PS4 sold 3,9M units in Spain, Switch 1 sold 3,5M units in Spain. That means even though Switch 1 sold much more than PS4 WW, in Spain PS is more popular. So yes you would expect PS5 to sell more than Switch 2 in Spain as well.

Switch 1 and PS4 sales are not worlds apart, they're relatively close competitors. So that should make Switch 2 and PS5 close competitors too... so the 5 year old PS5 doing 4x the number of the brand new S2 is still an achievement and notable.

If Switch 2 had matched PS5 we would probably consider that expected considering the audience of S1 is huge and the system is brand new versus PS5 being older now.

This news isn't to dunk on the S2 necessarily, but it is in fact interesting. Whether from the PS5 standpoint of how elastic its sales can be if it had the traditional price falls over its life, or whether this is s reflection of slower sales thus far for PS5 because of its higher price (IDK), or whether S2 is not quite performing to its potential because its higher than expected price (IDK)... but worthy of discussion. Would be nice if there were some comparisons to past performances of S1 and PS4 during black friday.

I am actually surprised the Switch 2 had a decent discount, in the UK I could only see £10 discounts and discounts on add ons (Switch Online)

Sony-Land strikes again

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

PS5 hasn't declined in popularity in Europe, the covid related problems at the start of the PS5 era as well as some increased prices has just pushed demand later down the line for PS5, which we can see from the strong PS5 sales this year in Europe.

And what would be the motivation for Spaniards to buy Switch 2 this year? Almost none of the Switch 2 first party games are selling in Spain, meaning they don't appeal to the general market in Spain. All the appealing new third party releases of 2025 also skips Switch 2 releases. We don't know yet if Nintendo will see no positive effect in the future in markets like Spain when they release games people actually want to play in Spain, for one thing. If Nintendo releases a new 3D Mario game that bombs and don't sell any consoles in Spain, that would be more worrying for Nintendo's long term performance in that market.

All in all, Nintendo is not able to be a competitor to PS5 in Spain, but if Switch 2 sells 300k in Spain this year, that would be a very strong first year in Spain for a Nintendo console, which shows that Switch 2 is still slated to be a good second fiddle console in Spain, even though it won't touch PS5 popularity there.

On nedgame top 10 best sellers ps5 is outselling pokemon on switch, both xbox series and switch2 are not in the top10 list.

Did japan also have a sale?

Why would they do that? What resources would they move, and how would it benefit them?

Europe is a massive market, even for Nintendo. They sold over 40m Switch's there.

So .. can we see some normal prior weeks data for Spain in order to make a picture exactly how well or bad is this ? For each system ? Also why is Switch 1 missing? I found thread for the last year black friday week - and the data is:

  • PS5 - 29 000
  • Switch 1 - 8 000
  • Xbox Series - 1 600

This year's black friday is:

  • PS5 - 41,000 units
  • Switch 2 - under 10,000 units
  • Xbox series - 700 units

Which puts the PS5 with around 40% up year on year for that week.

For Nov 18th to Nov 24th last year PS5 sold 29k so this is up a lot. It then sold 71k the next week.

PS5 sold 1.95m in Europe Nov 2024. This year could it break 2m?
