With September estimates it should be over 80 million. It has an extra week and it was discounted by a decent across Europe to help boost sales.

So the PS5 is taking about 3 months between units shipped and sold, excluding the holiday period.

Yeah, plus we have the Ghost of Yotei boost now in early October.

@trunkswd I guess the US numbers for Switch 1 should be 50k right ? since they are 54k for the Americas region. In the US numbers they are 60, and in the Americas one they are 54k.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had the numbers for XS and NS flipped. 

It has generally been 3 to 4 months between units shipped and sold. Not always the case though.

Switch 2 Best-Seller as Sales Top 8M - Worldwide Hardware Estimates for August 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console worldwide with 1,112,719 units sold for August 2025, according to VGChartz estimates. The Switch 2 has sold 8.16 million units lifetime.

The PlayStation 5 was the second best-selling console with an estimated 875,798 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 79.09 million units. The Nintendo Switch 1 was the third best-selling console with an estimated 259,568 units sold to bring lifetime sales to 151.62 million units. The Xbox Series X|S came in fourth place with 123,644 units sold to bring its lifetime sales to 33.53 million units.

Switch 2 sales compared to the third month for Switch 1 in 2017 are up by 0.62 million units, as the Switch 1 sold 493,849 units in its third month worldwide in May 2017.

PS5 sales compared to the same month for the PS4 in 2018 are up by over 20,000 units, while the Xbox Series X|S compared to the same month for the Xbox One are down by over 254,000 units. PS4 sold 855,409 units for the month of August 2018 and Xbox One sales were at 377,679 units.

PlayStation 5 sales compared to the same month a year ago are down by 228,311 (-20.7%). Xbox Series X|S sales are down by 150,886 units (-55.0%) and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are down by 426,339 units (-62.2%).

Looking at sales month-on-month, Nintendo Switch 2 sales are down by over 491,000 units, PlayStation 5 sales are up by over 93,000 units, Xbox Series X|S sales are down by over 6,000 units, and Nintendo Switch 1 sales are up by nearly 6,000.

2025 year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold 8.16 million units, the PlayStation 5 has sold an estimated 7.06 million units, the Nintendo Switch 1 has sold 2.99 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S has sold 1.54 million units.

Pretty much everything sans Xbox Series is looking pretty good under the circumstances; Switch 2 is still riding high while PS5 remains healthy and Switch 1 continues to soldier on even after it's been relieved.

If Xbox is getting outsold by PS5 7:1 (and even 2:1 by Switch 1 post-replacement) now then its gonna be a bloodbath once that second price hike kicks in.

Switch 2 shipments for this quarter look like they will be in the ballpark of 4 million? Switch 2 hitting around 10 million by the end of September is truly wild. Switch 2's first fiscal year ending March 30th 2026 looks to be between 21 to 22 million. Q1 (June 2025) of 5.8 million, Q2 (July to Sept 2025) of 4 million, Q3 (Oct to Dec 2025) of 8 million, and 3 or 4 million Q4 (Jan to March 2026). Switch 2 might hit 40 million by Dec 30th 2026, that would be just 18 months. Has anything moved at that pace before?

Switch 2 continues to be the fastest selling console and will likely retain its lead for a while. Nintendo has done a great job keeping stock available.

It does appear Microsoft is done competing in the console market. I do expect another Xbox, but I see it being more of a PC with access to Steam, Epic Store, etc with an Xbox UI. That also means it won't be sold at a loss or at least only at a very tiny loss.
