Its a stupid lie. Sony cannot be belived anymore.
Damn Sony just shot a hornet's nest and the bees are buzzing.

It was rounding after all ... He said 160M. Like exactly. Sony said over. What are the chances PS2 sold exactly 160.000.000 ? So it's rounding. But rounding down, not up. |
To be more clear I meant that since he had access to the sales data it wouldn't have made sense for him to say 160m if it never reached that unless it was literally like 100k less or something like that. Rounding down is right though and as I said earlier since he said 160m and not over 160m I think it's almost guaranteed it's below 161m so the range is thankfully really small now.

What's your reasoning for this? You must surely have good evidence of them lying.

IF they really reached 160 million they would have announced it in 2013. Thats the evidence. They are a bunch of liers. The number keeps growing as the years pass by. If the Switch surpasses 160 million, Sony will say 165 million. They are piss afraid of the Switch. Whats next? PS4 is over 120 million?😂

I now read again, that you wrote he wasn't rounding up (not just rounding as I thought) I am little bit distracted lately. Pardon me.

No the number does not keep growing as the years pass by. The last time they officially updated it was back in early 2012 so this is nothing more than them finally saying how much it sold after that point. And they won't ever say 165m cause the theoretical minimum and maximum for the PS2 has been estimated to be 159.2m and 161.8m for quite some time so it reaching 160m isn't surprising at all to anyone who has paid enough attention to this sort of stuff.
I get that you're really emotionally invested in the Switch beating the PS2 but there's no need for this nonsensical conspiracy type logic.

I completely understand where you are coming from, they are certainly moving the goalpost as much as possible and the console warriors know it too. They and Sony are terrified but no need to waste your breathe. That figure is still way too low. It's declines aren't anywhere near large enough to not atleast crawl to 160 million but it will not need to crawl because it'll likely hit 155 million before Switch 2 even hits the market. That's how much trouble PS2 is in, Sony was too scared to call it what it is today, the biggest selling in history. The fear is real, even Sony knows Switch is joining it in the 160 million club. They will never annouce an official figure because calling it one of the two only systems in history to hit 160 is quite impressive.

I don't know if it's plausible that Nintendo DS also passed 160M, but Sony don't know Nintendo's internal figures, so I dont expect them to act as if they do when its last updated figure was in the same range as the PS2.

Nintendo says exactly how many DS systems they have sold on their IR website.

I see, down to the ten thousands.
People should know though that what's on a website isn't neccesarily coming from reading internal documents. Not even that 160M figure.
Web designers take a lot of initiative. And while they will seek final approval from the higher up responsible for the project, that "one of the most sold" sentence could very well come from the web designers own research.
