I hope you didn’t think I was making the opposite point. I’m showing the absurdity of the folks claiming that the Switch Lite shouldn’t count toward the sales of the Switch. Seems like a no brainer to me, but leave it to folks that just want to argue about anything.

I actually thought you were making the opposite point. I'm glad it's not the case. I could have quoted other people here, but I chose you just bc you were the most recent in the thread. But yeah, calling a Switch Lite not a Switch is non-sense

Well I’m glad I clarified. 😂😂 I was just going to leave it but you seemed to not be adding any confirming points or humor so I had to make sure. Yeah, it’s a silly argument and hopefully my example helps shine a little light on that for a few. We’re going to see more and more crazy arguments as we get closer and closer.

Obviously, the Switch Light is a Switch. My genuine question is how things will play out regarding home console records specifically, a department where Nintendo has never come close to Sony, with the exception of the Wii. If the Switch surpasses 160 million units sold, could it be considered the best-selling home console of all time?

But can it switch?

Or is it a handheld only?

Nobody seems to be able to answer that simple question.

It's the same console.

It runs the same games. It has the same OS. The eShop is identical between the 3 Switch models.

The form factor doesn't matter. The PlayStation TV is still a PS Vita.

Thats the same with the ps portal? Its just a handheld version of the ps5

And yet THAT is not counted towards ps5 sales.

But okej as someone else said, this is a wrong topic for iam sorry.

PS Portal - accessory

Switch Lite - stand-alone console

Clearly.

By your logic we could double wii u's numbers as they all shipped with a 'portal'.

Try harder.

The Portal is neither a PS5 nor purely an accessory, as it no longer requires a console to play games. It's just a neat little device for the few million gamers that care.

Hopefully if the Switch manages to get within a single million reach, Nintendo would consider trying to push it past the PS2. Though I don't think they care much about the race for #1, it's still a nice thing to brag about for a company and maybe worth the extra efforts (bundles, price cut, etc.).

You can't stream games everywhere, though.

Where I live there's no PS+ Premium, it's called PS+ Deluxe. The difference is that PS+ Premium includes PS3 streaming, but PS+ Deluxe doesn't. This also applies to the PS Portal, so you can't use it stand alone to stream games either. It's still a remote play accessory in a lot of countries.

If the Switch get to 159M or something like that, by that time switch will sell very poorly, and will probably do 500k to 1M for the given year. Which means that 1M more will be very hard. It will mean they will need to do some bundles, pricecuts and sell it for at least 2 years more (since each year is a drop in sales) and that means they will need to leave it on the market until around 2030. (which by the way will contradicts with the opinion of some people how Switch is way ahead of the PS2 for it's 8-9 years, and they compare it with how one competitor did something in a lot less time than other, since by 2030 Switch will be what PS2 was in 2013 - 13 years old, so if 160M are reached then it will be esentially the same result, 160M in 13 years).

Nintendo could easily get it over 160 if they even lifted a finger to do so. Youre assuming if they had it on the market until 2030 and they conducted business as usual then it might have a hard time getting there. Id agree that seems to be the case, but if they continued to market it and cut the price like how sony did with the ps2 then theyd have no issue crossing 160. Itd be easy.

The same goes for the DS as well. The same goes for the PS2 as well (well not the pricecut since it already was at 99$ at the end, but if they continued to sell it I mean, since it was selling around 4M per fiscal years, before it was discontinued because of the start of the PS4 production).

I mean all three console could've sell more if their manufacturer did the necessary steps. PS2 could reach 170 or 180M if it was another 5 years on the market (since it did 4M per year in it's last few years). Switch with price cuts too could reach those numbers. DS if it wasn't 3DS announced and released so soon would sell at least 10 to 20M more too.
