Forums - Sales - The Road to 160m+ for Nintendo Switch

Switch 1 will get a price increase in the US, which probably seals the whole deal with Switch not overtaking PS2. In an alternative reality without tariffs the Switch 1 could have outsold the PS2 eventually.

Canada price increase happened today. The original Nintendo Switch increased by $20 CAD to $419.99, the Switch Lite increased by $20 CAD to $279.99, and the Switch OLED increased by $40 CAD to $489.99. We will know in 2 days, but probably a similar increase in the US.

Before the price increase in the US the Switch 1 is $299.99, Lite is $199.99, and OLED is $349.99.

SW1 software also got an increase too in Canada. Older 1st party games like Odyssey and Breath of the Wild went from $79.99 to $84.99 and Tears of the Kingdom is now $89.99.

Something I noticed in Nintendo's financials is that the Yen is getting stronger again versus Dollar and Euro, after years of weakening. This could be a reason for the increase, not saying the only one.

What a joke nintendo makes records profits and dares to increase the price of there already overpriced old system.

Its prob going to tank the sales in the usa.

The dream to beat the true KING of consoles PS2 is reaching even further away.
Gaming has become a joke.

The price increase in the US, is not so big. I wonder if it will have big impact on it's sales. However with that point in time, where it's naturally to decline, we can't know for sure, if it's declines are from the increase or natural unless they become big, which I don't see. For now the declines are gradual.

Nintendo is not making record profits at all, basically their profits this year is the same as last year's profits (Which were pretty mediocre due to being the eight year of Switch 1 with low hardware and software sales). This is because tariffs make the profit margins for the Switch 2 incredibly bad.

Well it seems to be largely due to tariffs.

And consumers end up paying for it.

Either way, the price cuts we were used to from previous generations shouldn't be expected these days.

It's all about protecting profit margins, people need to just accept that it's not 2002 anymore. Industry has changed a lot.

In the past game consoles also used to have lower ceilings, like 45 million-ish sold was a pretty strong success because the market was not large. You needed price cuts just to get there as the industry was a lot of children relying on parents to buy them their system (1980s-mid 2000s). That has changed, nowadays, Nintendo and Sony know they can get to 100+ million without too much fuss if they have a good system. Why cut the price.

There will be a Switch 2 Pro this time around too I think, one that will have an even fatter margin for Nintendo ($599.99?).

Net Profit (billion Yen)

FY21-480.3

FY22-477.6

FY23-432.7

FY24-490.6

FY25-278.8

Their latest full fiscal profits were down ~40% from the previous 4 years. And now we have Trump who is trying his best to crater the global economy and raise prices.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The price increase will also include the Switch Lite? If not, maybe the Switch still can turn around this tariff problem. The Switch Lite would stand as the only really cheap console in the market
