Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why Nintendo still doesn't have a trophy/achievement system to their games in 2015?

Predict When Ninty will bring trophies:

2016-2017, after their next consoles arrive. 60 22.73%

2025, better late. 17 6.44%

Nevah! 101 38.26%

Idc for this BS. (dont lie to yourself) 86 32.58%

Total:264

Several games have them on the software itself, wich quite honestly makes alot of sense. The E-peen measure of trophie level and gamerscore is ridiculous.

You don't know Ka-pi96?

I am pretty sure the majority thinks that achievements are pretty pointless, otherwise the gamertags and PSN IDs I've seen on this forum over the years would have shown much higher numbers. Nevermind that forums in general are home to passionate gamers, so if even they can't really be bothered, then it isn't hard to imagine that the average gamer cares even less about achievements.

Do you really think Kapi only plays games for achievements and wouldn't play games without them? Wow. He might be enthusiastic about them but if that were actually true he wouldn't have owned a ps2 or deleted his other account which had more gamerscore. And also just because they don't go for a perfect 1000 or platinum doesn't mean they think they're pointless

See this proves that Kapi is more of an achievement whore than me. I may play disgraceful games to boost my GS, but I can still enjoy Nintendo games without them... Honestly, after playing shit games to boost GS I'm almost relieved they don't have them.

OT: Because they do want they want.

Well, i never care for them, be it in Steam, PS3, 3DS or Wii U.
That said, if it is proved it is what people want it (and they would buy a console/game for it), than i see no problem.

I'm thinking that if the people who think "more options is better" then why don't we have it where all consoles are exactly the same, where every console has the same hardware, features and options, more hte merrier right?, where's the problem in having everything being the same?, now before you go full on "stahp grasping at straws", you must understand that first those that want the same on the system they own on another system are in effect wanting the other system to play and operate the same as the other, the more "good" features there on one one system or another, you naturally want to combine features from each platform you like, then of course once you;ve gotten to that stage everything may as well be the same since you wanted all the features together as one, even on different platforms it would still count as being the same, so having more options on everything makes it all the same and not everyone likes everything being exactly the same.

I used to like getting gamerscore on my 360 years ago, same with getting higher gear score on WoW but after a few years I realised those tiny achievements that others would get ended up meaning nothing to me, they didn't affect how my life went on a daily basis, they didn't make me feel like I just won the lotto or gained some new super power or got a bj from some celeb, they just didn't make me feel awesome ebcause deep down they don't mean anything, you are just being patted on the back for doing a simple action on a piece of plastic like eevryone else and you are being conditioned into thinking that's a great and okay thing, instead of going out into the world and really going out of your way to achieve something very few people can do or something that means more than a few numbers or a shiny icon on a piece of plastic, real life achievements will always have much more value and meaning than a mere few digital numbers and icons, that's just a fact, before consoles real life achievements were the norm and still are, they hold much more value because actual real unique effort was put into getting them, you can say the same about a game but it's not the same as real life, it's just not and it;s sad when people don't realise the difference.

I don't really care if they add them in or not, I just find them a pointless feature compared to actually playing and enjoying what the game has to offer other than "congrats for completing action #245!", having the feature to stream or take snap shots seems more worthwhile than a few numbers, since both features serve multiple uses and deliver differently than numbers.

Nintendo have stated that for many of their titles it doesn't bring anything to the gameplay, that it's just an arbitrary checklist. They are also not a fan of forcing their developers to create useless achievements just for the sake of having them in their game.

Nintendo tends to do achievements on a game by game basis via unlocks. In Mario Kart 8, you achieved well in races you earn yourself a stamp to use on Miiverse, Smash Bros since Brawl has had the challenge blocks system which unlock a smash trophy or gameplay element once you achieve it. Achievements in Nintendo are very rarely just bragging rights like they are in a lot of other games. Hyrule Warriors does the traditional achievement style, but that's because the game was made by Tecmo Koei.

So in-game achievements are gimmicks now? Funny...and here I thought I was feeling more accomplished unlocking songs and character trophies in Smash Bros then getting those random trophy points on my PS3 collection.

Honestly though, I couldn't care less about achievements, but if draws people to the system, I really don't mind it being implemented somehow. I just find much more enjoyment in getting achievements the way Smash Bros. and Kid Icarus went about them. In-game rewards will always be more meaningful to me than some point tally.

If it makes sense and the fans want it, Nintendo won't do it. Remember this is the company that once said "Customers do not want online games."

Really, did nintendo said that?, if this is true, no wonder they are always behind everyone.

Yes, Iwata said that in response to requests for online games on the GameCube. He cited that the bestselling games of the previous year were offline titles while online games failed to gain traction, so that's why Nintendo wasn't going to make online games for the GC. It's a quote that is often taken out of context to prove some kind of point. Iwata's statement was obviously not something that applied to their future systems, hence why Mario Kart DS went online in November 2005.

Well, it makes more sense if it was said back then.  What he said sounded as though it was a quote made recently or at least last gen when online games were gaining popularity.

I actually have come to accept achievements and trophies as a legitimate part of a video game. However, people are overreacting on both sides. On one side that says that there shouldn't be achievements, If you don't like them, that doesn't mean they shouldn't exist. On the other side that says that there should always be options and that it will increase sales and so on, it increases development time (and naturally costs), so whether or not it will actually result in net positives is debatable for the Nintendo audience. I would not object if Nintendo introduced the system, but I also would not be surprised if they skipped it for another generation. This is the least of Nintendo's worries right now anyway.

This is just impossible in plain 2015 to not have a system that records your amazing deeds while playing games. Something that in 2015 is just unbelievable that Nintendo still hasn't introduced nothing of the kind except for some gimmicky attempt  with unlockables in games itself (like many 3rd party have been doing in their games as well, but still having trophies). What's the excuse that is keeping Nintendo from bringing this simple but glorious to see app to their consoles? Do you also wish they could bring this feature? IMO their consoles would gain more appeal as their games.

Most Nintendo-games ave achievements. They do not have a system that records that on the device and distribute the results through your friendlist. Dunno if that is important. The pressure to put up trophies though is bad, some games on PS have pretty stupid trophies, just for having trophies. That isn't saying a system-wide trophy-system is bad (just without enforcing every game to have trophies), I'm undecided on that. I don't feel much difference in playing games on Wii/WiiU or PS3, I enjoy useful achievements in games in all systems.
