I actually have come to accept achievements and trophies as a legitimate part of a video game. However, people are overreacting on both sides. On one side that says that there shouldn't be achievements, If you don't like them, that doesn't mean they shouldn't exist. On the other side that says that there should always be options and that it will increase sales and so on, it increases development time (and naturally costs), so whether or not it will actually result in net positives is debatable for the Nintendo audience. I would not object if Nintendo introduced the system, but I also would not be surprised if they skipped it for another generation. This is the least of Nintendo's worries right now anyway.
