I'm not sure why but I still get offended when people stereotype the British... especially people that have never even been here and base us off what they've seen on cartoons and stuff...

Yeah, especially the teeth thing...

Long time since I drank a crumpet.

I don't think you drink them...

Which is why it's a long time since I have drank one

As to your second post, a stereotype doesn't mean the person using it thinks all people involved conform to it, so someone with a high IQ can still attach a stereotype to Brits in general... Hell I'm British and I think a lot of us have bad teeth compared to other countries, my teeth are clean and white but one thing I would certainly consider is having them straightened, and I am generally against cosmetic surgery apart from corrective application (ie if someone is scarred in an accident). Also I happen to agree that most British accents are not very nice, and there is probably quite a lot of tea drinking (though I personally don't drink it) Crumpets are probably more popular than elsewhere in the world but I don't think there is much basis for a sterotype on that front, I mean I like crumpets but it's probably been a year since I last had one, and I don't know anyone who eats them particularly often.

OT: I doubt anyone with an IQ past single digits still seriously attaches those stereotypes to us brits.

Well...do not read my post.

Oh.Spoiler Alert! :)

Fixed my post ;)

Uhmm, awesome football, beer, and music. Crappy political positions.

It's indeed a really nice place to visit, loved London, and the architecture in Edinburgh is just magnificent.

Now, about the monarchy, I actually find it quite interesting all the respect the queen gets. Not sure if I'd embrace it, but I'd love the greeting once I become 100 (probably she won't be around tho :( )

Edit: About the accent, sometimes it can be hard for non native speakers like me. However, cockney is just too much fun in Ritchie's films. And I prefer the one I consider the average English accent over the accents in the States.

I think you have bad teeth and a horrible accent which is difficult to understand (especially those that live near Scotland). Actually, I don't really think too much about the English but I do believe USA might have been better off staying a colony.

Amen to that.
I visited Durham with my "Cultural Studies" class and none of us could understand a word that our taxi driver was saying when he drove us from Newcastle Airport to Durham University.
On another day I went to a local Sainsbury's and also had a hard time understanding what the clerk was trying to tell me. (he asked if I'd like to have a bag).

Other than that it was not hard at all. Sure helps that there are a lot of students from all round the UK in Durham.

I saw a LOT of sheep, extremely green grass and trimmed lawn everywhere I looked.
We also only had one day of rain in 7 days, but it was extremely windy at all times.

The only thing I noticed is that British people can be snobbish to other individuals that are not British, this applies to a number of countries, but I noticed British coming off strong.

Also the chav culture makes me hate the youth culture that seems to be going around in the western culture.

I don't understand the bad teeth thing, everyone has cheap, regular (free if low income) dentist checkups whereas I'm sure some low income US people never visit one.

Care to explain why?

Bad teeth is just an old stereotype which modern USA cartoons like Family Guy will not put to rest (so I just threw that out there since it was bound to be listed).

Difficult to understand is my personal belief.  While most English people I can understand (considering I speak English) there are those in the UK that have a very heavy accent (which I believe to be people that live more up north near the Scottish border).  Basically, they talk kind of fast but their accent makes it seem like all the words slur together so I have a hard time understanding.  Basically, if I watch any Guy Ritchie movies there are a few people in his movies that I would have to put the subtitles on for in order to understand what they are saying all the time.

You should watch some Rab C Nesbitt... an 80s/90s comedy about an alcoholhic Glaswegian.

It's a real challenge to figure out what he's saying.

I don't think many English people could understand that. I can't.

You're alright for Europeans, but you make terrible food, play the wrong sort of football, and are way too obsessed with meaningless monarchs.

Like in the India thread, this is a generalization. Please don't ban me.
