Forums - Gaming - Which console would you pick on a lonely island, and is your favorite?

PS3 60 GB launch model with a 750 GB upgraded storage coupled with a full HD Samsung, 46 inch, Plasma tv.

I was gaming casually on NES, Genesis, 3DO, PS1 and PS2 when i was a child/teen during the 90s and early 2000s.. but when i bought an 80GB PS3 back in 2009 i became deeply committed to gaming in collage and created so many memorable moments during that golden era.

In a desert island situation, wouldn't you want a PS2 or PS3?

There's no rules against backwards compatibility. You get a bigger lineup of games even if PS1 is your favorite.

I don't think that's a fair way to compare then.

When making comparisons between them I only consider what was released after the system was already out, so what was actually getting put out during its own generation.

Nothing prevents systems with full BC to be better as a single thing to own, because it's that + more, and other people to choose them because of that, but I don't think it is fair to compare them that way.

If I'm picking PS2 mostly because of PS1 games that makes it even more clear which one is my favorite.

Now thats what i call critical thinking and i appreciate that point of view.

That's a perfect choice. I would add on that 2TB SSD, full of games on it, and 2 limited edition Dualshock 3s (some game skin one or some of the colorful ones).

Sadly a SSD doesn't make a huge difference inside a PS3 like we had coming from PS4 to PS5, but I love to see people doing the best they can with their PS3s.

PS3 was also a time that marked me as I got into game collecting with it, it was the first system to have original games being affordable here in Brazil since the Sega Master System, and to this day it still is the best system to start a collection around here.

I went from playing burned CDs/DVDs and using PC for emulation to owning over 80 games with the PS3, and even as I have more PS4 games for some time now, it will always be the turning point for me. Also the XMB is still the best UI, IMO.

Thank you.

I actually own 3 official limited edition Dualshock 3 controllers (God of War Ascension, Uncharted 3 and Tales of Xillia) which i bought brand new from Ebay 3 years ago and i use them frequently whenever i fire up my PS3 hehe.

The same thing happened where i live! The PS3 era marked the first time official genuine physical copies of video games were being sold and for that i also built a large physical collection of games with over 70 games total on PS3.
