Forums - Sales - April 2026 VGChartz Estimates Thread

Welcome to the April 2026 VGChartz estimates thread, which includes the dates from April 5 to May 2. The articles breaking down April 2026 estimates will be posted in this thread.

You can go to the front page of the site and use the drop down to see the different weekly and monthly sales.

VGChartz Methodology: Hardware estimates are based on retail sampling and trends in individual countries, which are then extrapolated to represent the wider region. This typically allows us to produce figures that end up being within 10% of the actual totals.

This data is regularly compared against official shipment figures released by the console manufacturers and figures estimated by regional trackers with greater market coverage than ourselves. We then update our own estimates to bring them into line with those figures. This can result in frequent changes often within a short space of time, but we feel it's important to prioritise accuracy over consistency.

Note that our estimates are based on sell-through data (units sold to consumers). In almost all cases the figures released by console manufacturers are based on shipment data (sell-in), where as soon as a device has left the factory and entered the supply chain for delivery it is considered a sale. This is why there is always a difference between the companies’ figures (sell-in) and VGChartz estimates (sell-through), even after we’ve made adjustments. The one exception to that is when a console has been discontinued and the remaining stock has finally sold out – at that point the figures will match.

Jesus. All sales awful, except for the Switch1 which is benefitting from the awful pricing of all current gen systems and also thanks to Japan's obsession with the Switches.

Switch 2 back down to its reality of solid-but-nothing-special sales after it's one great month in March. The record breaking launch sales of almost a year ago seem like a distant memory at this point. I guess the good thing for Nintendo though is that the surprise system seller Pokopia driving crazy March HW sales shows that Switch 2 sales could start to be turned around if they actually start putting out must-have games which have been entirely lacking for the system so far. Really poor planning/execution by Nintendo this gen, and even more so with the upcoming price increase at a time when the US is tanking the whole world economy. A lot is riding on the rumored OoT remake this year and Mario next year, especially if they don't have any other major system sellers incoming.

PS5 holyyy cow that price increase nuked Sony. At some point these companies are gonna have to just take a hit on hardware in order to sell more games and therefore make more money. Who cares if you get an extra $100-$200 from hardware if that prevents people from spending multiple hundreds of dollars on games + more on accessories and subscriptions the next few years. PS5's month looks like a just average Switch WEEK back in its heyday.

And Xbox, sorry, "XBOX", dead man walking as usual.

Yeah .. and this is without full month of the increased price mind you, cuz on many places there was the lower price till the first half of the month .. May will be even worse.

Wow, I forgot that.

At this rate it will be tough for PS5 to outsell PS4. I'm well aware GTAVI will provoke a huge spike, but even it won't be enough I believe.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
