Forums - Sales - Famitsu Sales: Weeks 1+2, 2026 (Dec 29 - Jan 11)

Given that Xbox sold 30k+ last year in Japan, will this year see them sell 10k+ in Japan?

Around the Network

Here is the breakdown according to VGChartz estimates for the two weeks:

Week ending January 4th:

  • Switch 2 - 216.5k
  • Switch 1 - 30.6k
  • PS5 - 31k

Week ending January 11th:

  • Switch 2 - 97.2k
  • Switch 1 - 15.7k
  • PS5 - 15.7k

*Those numbers are slightly off, since VGChartz tracks weeks with 1 day difference from Famitsu (in order to be in line with NPD/Circana), therefore there may be slight differences, but it shouldn't be more than 1-2k for each at most.

This would actually be a good sign for the PS5 since it would be up YoY by a few thousand for week 2. It'll still have a big deficit against 2025 after weeks 9-11 even if it holds up really well till then though.

Playstation consoles always sell more in that week for some reason.

Nintendo Switch Lite top selling form after a long time.
For @@@@ sake, how famitsu is capable of counting 25 units sales in a vast country and can't track sales from Amazon etc.

Give me exemption about quoting myself.

A slash in price for Nintendo switch lite along with new tomodachi game, could do wonders.

Unless the audience owns already a switch...

What do you mean? The PS5's week 2 performance hasn't been unusual and for the past couple years has been in line for what the baseline for the first stretch of the year will be so if that continues around 15k could be the norm for a the next several weeks.

I mean they sell more in the first week of the new year, than the last week of the previous year.

They get a boost.

Ah ok that was confusing since I was talking about week 2. The same pattern happens for Nintendo and it's cause new year is the most significant holiday in Japan rather than Christmas like the west so there's even more buying going on the first few days of January compared to Christmas week.

Demon Slayer 2 has now passed Demon Slayer 1's sales on Switch on the Famitsu charts (178k vs 180k), so another release where the second game surpassed the first game on Switch.

And kinda crazy that BOTW managed to sell 100k retail copies in Japan during 2025 (NSW 1+ NSW 2), when it was 8 year old game (soon to be 9 years old), that game will continue to sell for years to come on Switch 2.
